Header Headaches
My son bought some used chrome block hugger headers for his 1977 C10 to replace the Hedmans so he can lower it 5/5. The Hedmans hang below the frame a little too far. These block huggers really interfere with the motor mounts are not going to fit. What have you guys used that work on a lowered truck?

I've heard of guys here using Chevelle from 68-72 headers. Not sure if they're the full length or shorties.
I bought some JBA shorties and they are wonderful!! :)
Thanks, I will try to find the JBA's.
I know Low84 bought Dynomax shorties for his truck. They look great too!
Just a warning...you might want a tube of K-Y before you ask them how much. lol
LOHRTBT, You are right...WOW! Those things must be made of gold! I looked at your website and your truck certainly deserves them...nice ride! I think I will try to investigate some less expensive options. How did you lower your truck? We just bought the DJM 5/5 kit from Godfathers...they had the best price.
BigRed, Do you know what model headers Low 84 purchased? I emailed him but have not heard back. I am having some ISP problems so not sure if he tried to get back to me. I also emailed Dynomax Tech Services to see if they know since they don't have truck shorties listed in their web catalog.

I bought my Dynomax (full length) ceramic coated headers because I saw his and was really impressed by the look of them. You can look at my website (in the signature) and see that's one of the shiniest things under my hood. :) I'd like to lower mine in the future but will most definitely have to think about header replacement when that time comes. |
Big Red, Your truck looks great! I guess you have not lowered it yet. How far do your headers hang below the frame? They certainly look great. I think we could have gotten by with less drop if we retained the 60 series tires and larger rolling radius. Instead we went with 15 inch 50 series and these will just need more drop to get the right look...something to consider. The price of those 17+ inch wheels are just too much!

hey dood. i emailed you back, but since you are having isp problems i'll paste it here as well:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------- hey man. i know just what you need. i got the tip from the 67-72 guys. they are a dynomax cyramic coated shorty header made for chevelles. since they worked for those guys, i figured they would work for me so i bought a set and they fit perfect. no ground clearence problems, even with the 5/7 drop. i got them from JEGS and the part number is 289-86118, if you got thier catalougue just look in the header section, and find the dynomax cyramic coated header column. they will be right there labeled "64-87 chevelle, 67-81 camaro SBC (shorty)". the cost a little over 200 bucks and are well worth it. i attached http://pic1.picturetrail.com/VOL125/...5/13522010.jpg a pic of mine. later, ryan |
Outstanding! Thanks for the info. Now...I wonder if any of the '64-'87 Chevelle or '67-'81 Camaro shorties will work too? How is the access for changing plugs? I am going to order some and give'em a try!
spark plug access is not the greatest. none of them are 'impossible' to get to, but you have to use a open end/box end wrech to get alot of them. it just takes patience :bowtie: :flag:
