I would not do it. IMO, nothing says 70's more than a sunroof and 8-track player.

Re: sunroof?

I put a sun roof in an 83' GMC that I had and I really liked it. It never leaked and I didn't have any problems with it. However, I did this back in about 1985. Not sure I would do it today.

I would not do it. My father always put them in trucks and hated them in the long run.

Don't do it ! I can't stand aftermarket sunroofs on anything, just looks like too much of an after thought.

Get a sliding rear window instead if you don't already have one. They provide good ventilation and aren't noisy at all, even at high speeds.

Re: sunroof?

I've seen at least 3 trucks here where the pop-up sunroof leaked and ruined seat/carpet/floor. Newer sunroofs are tilt/slide and have drain hoses that need to be routed down the pillars and out of the cab. You'd have to find one with the correct roof shape and size (mayber new 'burb?), be sure it has a shade and drain hose connections, and install a headliner with about 2" drop.

Oh, you'll need to reinfoce the roof by making and welding in a frame around the opening.

I have to say that I like the idea, but I haven't ever heard of one that looked good and didn't leak.

I have thought of putting a sliding rag top on my Burb or my Crew Cab....

I am with you capt...I was entertained by a giant 40" wide ragtop for my crew cab....not sure what I want to do...

Re: sunroof?

If and when I decide to put in a sunroof on my Burb, I think I'd go find a newer GM product with a panoramic sunroof in it at a wrecking yard and take the roof off of it and have it sectioned into my roof. That way it's all original GM parts and no aftermarket parts that go obsolete 6 months after they're made.

Re: sunroof?

If you have air-conditioning, you will find yourself using it more....that sun cooks right on in there.

Re: sunroof?

The idea is good but there is just too much that could potentially go wrong. I think in the long run installing a sun roof would turn out to be a big pain.
