1 Attachment(s)
I took some pics of the rust on my truck awhile back I would like your opinions on how to fix these problems and about how much it would cost to get them fixed I was also thinking about taking the cab off and getting it worked on first it is the only part of the truck that has rust except fot the tailgate. I also posted this on the paint board last week.

I scrapped a cab that was better than that because it was going to be over $300 in parts before I started cutting, welding and grinding. I did not have to do the roof or cab sections around the drip rails. I would be very worried about the condition of that cab seeing the rust in the different spots. How are the rockers, corners, floor, kick panels, cab supports and firewall? I would check all these areas with an ice pick to see if goes through.
My gut reaction is to get another cab...and I love to weld! You could have $2000 on this cab and still have marginal areas that will rust out in 5-6 years. Just my opinion...and that is worth what you paid for it..LOL! Sorry...how to fix? Cut out all the rusty sheet metal and weld in new sheet metal. |
I have a air cab that i would be willing to part with that is in great shape. The good thing is it is in Texas.

Damn, you guy scrap cabs that are in better shape than that? Mine was 100 times worse when I started. It's finished now (the cab that is). It took a couple months of cutting and grinding though. With rust spots as small as those, I'd probably just sand blast the bad spots, and use some spot-putty to smooth the pitted surfaces. The rust holes will have to be cut out and new metal will have to be welded in (to do it right). Since those holes look fairly small, you can probably put some tiger hair (or glass reinforce bondo) over them and sand smooth.
