Inherited my grandfathers k20 burb!

So i inherited my grandfathers suburban. Sadly he hasnt been able to drive or walk good since his stroke, so its up to me to take care of the truck. It has been sitting in the same spot for close to 10 years. My uncle got it running a few years ago, so she isnt locked up! My grandfather was a master mechanic and auto repair specialist, till the day he had a stroke, so this truck could be alot worse shape if it wasnt for his expertise.

Im still not sure what year it is, but i do believe it is around 1977-78 with 81+ sheet metal and parts. It was a newspaper truck 20 years ago before he restored it.As you can see..the local salt water air has not been kind to the drivers side! I get the keys tmorrow, so il check it out closer.

It needs, lower drivers fender, door, rear wheel tubs, lower bed and rocker sheet metal. Who sells the best fitting sheet metal? 1973-87chevytrucks has some great prices, and everything i need, that might be my option.

Its got a chevy 350 (maybe a 400), with a turbo 400, warn locking hubs, it is 8 lug. Blue vinyl interior. Basicly its bare bones! It has a rip on the drivers side vinyl, so that will need to be reupolstered. I think theres french fries still stuck in the seats from when i was a little kid!

The plan is to get it running first, get the brakes and tires all set, then comes sheet metal.

It really is the best and worst way to get a truck. The good thing about it is, you clean it up, fix it up, and you will always have somthing of his to remember him by.

I am sure you clean it up and get it running and take him for a ride he will be thrilled. Good luck.

Also, you can tell if it is a 400 by looking at the side of the block, 400's have 3 freeze plugs on each side, 350's have 2.

Thanks guys! Its pretty rough on the drivers side, passenger side is mint. I talked to him today, its a 350 with 1968 2.02 valve heads. He told me he was going to cut the wheel tubs out anyways and just fill them in flat, ti fit more wood in. He packed it with wood and saws all the way to the roof, and it never even squated a inch, so that saves me 50 bucks.. :)

Heres more pics.

My father has a 75 4x4 blazer with a 85 shell, was his old project, that il use for some parts for the Burb. Wont have pics till the fall, its overgrown back there

The interior isnt stock, he got it out of the same truck the sheet metal came from. But the interior and dash is barebones, no power anything, just manual locks, roll up windows and a heater! Its a medium blue interior, all vinyl, no cloth. I love it..simple is the best.

Im keeping it stock..aside from maybe some engine mods, nothing crazy, its just gonna be a work truck, but Il be keeping it looking stock, I have always loved the 8 lug wheel steelies and hub caps/no caps

nice K20 burb (or is it V20? I forget)... that would look good jacked up 2/2 or 3/3 with 31s or 33s under it... clean up some of the rust and enjoy the beast
