stepside rear lights idea?
 

Hi guys,
Just wanted to know if using the fleetside buckets in the rear bed pillars will work? I've been tossing some ideas around and this one came up. Will it fit in the pillars? deep enough? wide enough? I dont have a fleetside bed to compare with. I'm planning to relocate the pillar so that it would sit flush with the edge of the bed. Next idea would probably be supra tailights in a home made rollpan.

How about an older el camino bumper with the 4 round lights in it?

I too have been trying to think of ideas for the step bed. I think the fleet lights would look cool if they fit. Or maybe put them in the rool pan? I don't know what Supra tail lights look like, but I like the idea of grafting in a late model light also. I think custom LEDs would be cool too.

There's a nice yellow stepside i see around town from time to time. It has taillights from a '70 Mustang turned 90 degrees and grafted into the fenders. I think it looks pretty sweet but I never have a camera with me to show what it looks like.

'69 taillights might look even better, come to think of it.

There's a stepside around here with '59 Cad lights frenched into the fenders. Two in each fender, stacked. Looks cool.

Somewhere about a year ago I saw some light housings in the shape of our BOWTIE. Now I can't find them.. I would like to set them up with red lenses and bulbs for the taillights in a roll pan.
I would also like to set them up for the front turn signals behind my billett grille.

I have a friend here locally that put the factory wide bed tail lights in his roll pan setting sideways. LOOKS FUNKY!! My opinion of course...

If any one knows where to find the BOWTIE ones I'd appreciate knowing..thanks,

I've thought about this also. I'll have to stop next to one of those and measure them.

I've seen a 55-57 truck with some bullet lights grafted into the fenders also.

Can someone measure the buckets to see how wide and deep. (I mean for those that have these out already. Please do not waste your time going out to your truck and measuring them.)

If I had a stepside, I would adapt a set of those round big truck LED lights to the stock housings. They would be somewhat original looking, yet different. Besides, I love the way they look when they turn off and on without any fade. Each of the lights I'm talking about has several large LED's, and they're highly visible. Something I like to believe helps keep the inattentive drivers from running into my truck.

However, on a different note.....I drive a school bus. I nearly ran over a Hyundai yesterday when it pulled out from a side street. My bus is nearly 40-ft long, bright yellow and equipped with all of the normal lights and reflectors. I'm sure her defense would have included the statement, "I didn't see it!".

Mine has '65 Impala lights mounted sideways. 2 on each side.

I had considered going to 59 Caddy lights or making a pair of bowtie shaped lights to graft into the fenders but since I painted my truck, I seem to like the Impala lights more.

What about putting small round lights in the bed side holes, where the bed sides come around and for a tube.

I've got LED's.
 

We purchased some custom led's from lambert enterprises. They are flush mount lights with 96 led lights on each card (they're way bright). They are brake, turn, and signal lights, and we got 'em for right around 200 bucks for the pair.

Now, where they're mounted...

Due to the tailgate latch we got from Mack Products, we no longer have the chains (no chipped paint). The led's are flush mounted in the stake pockets vertically. They measure 8 1/2" X 1". The trick thing about 'em is that the people at LE told us how to sand/paint/clear the lights so the lens is under the clearcoat and you won't be able to feel them. The truck is still in the paintshop, so I don't have any pics of them installed yet, but let's just assume that they're gonna look pretty tricked out! Well, that's what the bodyshop owner said.

Speaking of the bodyshop owner, you guys might have heard of him. His name is Ken Singleton. He's the points winner in the IHBA Top Alcohol Flat division. Oh, and his boat has a pretty sweet paintjob too! You can check that out at http://www.ihbaracing.com.

have you thought about mounting cougar taillights in a roll pan you know the ones that start at the outside and blink down the row i think that that would look really cool

they make lights for the small holes but i think they're inteded to be used like a 3rd brake light. i was thinking about putting backup lights there instead.

I was gonna mention the big truck LED light thing, but it was already mentioned above, so how about taking a pair of those bowtie exhaust tips (the chrome ones), cutting them down and welding them into the fenders, taking a piece of taillight lense from a large square taillight and cutting it to fit, you'd have to put the base for the bulb in it somehow and put some tabs in it to hold the lense on, but I think it would look pretty cool.

Taking a look at the pic again, I may have a hard time putting the tailgate back on if I block the pivot in the lower tailgate. We'll see. How about just using the 73 and up rear tails since it integrates both stop and reverse lights.

No roll pan but the truck now has a chrome bumper on. I'll have to try to find a pic of the back from a straight on angle. Should have one.
