New plan

This may belong in another forum, but here's the skinny...
We're gonna cut the windshield posts where I've indicated (in white) and then cut the floorpan where the rise starts on the floor, just ahead of the seat mounting bolt holes. The donor cab is also an air cab, that was hit hard in the rear, even though it's been repaired. My buddy says he fits everything together to achieve a 1/8-inch gap. It's gonna be better than new, if he does. I've been watching him the past week, while he fabricates pieces for a '54 Ford F-100...pieces that you can't buy. He starts with a sheet of steel, and goes to work. Cutting, fitting, bending, planishing, rolling....whatever it takes. He's like a bulldog on this stuff. He also told me he has a couple of tilt columns, at least two tachs and "other" stuff. Gonna see what he wants to shed....we've been doing some "trading" of parts, so maybe I can score a couple of goodies.... Time = money, right? Anyway, whatchathink of the idea? |
Re: New plan
Isn't that a little extreme? I think that'll buff right out :) Should make a good one when you're done.

Sounds like a plan to me. If he's that experienced he shouldn't have any problem with this.... LockDoc |

Extreme? Yeah, that's what I thought, too. But he's the man.
Actually, the cut will be made a couple inches behind the front cab mount bolts. That way, the front part of the cab will have a reference point, as if the windshield posts don't already do that. I'm stoked to think that the rust will be gone and it won't look like a steel patchwork quilt, but he could sure do it. Here's some pix of the work he's doing on that F-100. The dimmer switch well started the same way. He makes what you can't buy. Starting with a flat sheet of steel.... |
