Kizer and his 65 here
Heres the Craigslist Ad.
65 chevy 1/2 ton, 250 6 -cyl 3 on the tree. pretty straight, good tires, collecter plates. drive it to hell and back...15-18 mpg. trade for motorbike. I traded it for $400 because I don't own a motorbike. Welp its not pretty, but its mine. a buddy of mine came with me and gave me the thumbs up. He actually drove it home since the front brakes are shot and I've never driven a 3 on the tree before. He took off on one side street up a hill and well I couldn't catch him if I tried in his Jeep. Looking around there is some work ahead of me. I think looking it over in the drive way after we brought it home I don't think there is one piece of sheet metal that doesn't have a dent or a hole in it. Looks like I'm going to learn how to weld if I like it or not. If Rust is a Cancer this thing is for sure on the Terminally Ill list. Here are some shots. It was with my camera phone so yes they suck, but its what I have for now. Windows rollup and down pretty easily Lights work, however some of the running lights and blinkers seem to have a mind of their own Horn works Wood bed Doors don't squeak or crack when you open and close them Engine has a leak on top Windshield wipers work Starts right up after a few cranks Clutch appears to engage high up near the top - Adjustable? We will see Brakes are shot up front. Grind, Grind when you use them. Frame appears to be straight because it doesn't looks sideways going down the road from behind. All in all its going to be a project truck. I'm going to learn how to weld, paint and I'm sure I'm going to learn the proper way to fill in holes using the proper amount of bondo. ;) I know most will not use it, but I don't have an endless supply of liquid Metal laying around. I still have access to another truck so there will be some part stealing. Like the hood and a few other parts. Its going to be a who has the better of the two for starters. |

Yeah I know it needs some work. Probably a lot more than others, but I figure I'm only 37 and hopefully it will be done before the little guy in the seat is old enough to drive it. I hope nobody minds, but I'm kind of a photo freak. I probably take way to many and document way to much. The last transfercase I did for a buddy looked like this. http://www.iamkizer.net/kevin/ I did finish the build, but some how I miss placed the second half of the photos so I'm kinda bummed.
Here is well a photo shoot of everything above the frame. I haven't put it up on stands yet to look under. I do plan on doing a complete frame up clean up. I currently have a 3 on the tree and I have access to another 65 C10 or atleast it says it is and it has a 4speed and a transfercase. Does that seem right? I thought the K series was the 4wheel drive. Anyways can I bolt the 4speed up and remove the 3speed? I don't know where to look to see if the gear ratios would match and or if the outputs would work. Seeing it has a transfercase that might put me into looking for some other adapter. My clutch dosnt engage until towards the top as well. Maybe it's normal on the 3 speeds?

Sounds like mine just as well. Its like the total oposite of my Jeep. My Jeep is a few inches off the the floor and this one is nearly at the top.
I wonder if thats adjustable because honestly its kinda annoying, but then again it is 43years old. :waah: |

When I got my '64 the clutch would engage at the top because the clutch was totally shot.

Thanks for the info on the clutch. A buddy of mine pretty much confimed the samething.
I was plnning on pulling the body off to start cleaning up the frame and suspension. So I might as well address the clutch and any other flaws I notice when I can see it all. Is there a prefered brand of clutch? I'm not planning on building a hot rod out of the 230 so I'm sure some crazy centerforce clutch is probably overkill, just a street beater for now. Heck I hardly know enough about this thing to even order parts. |

Got start somewhere so I did. The wife kicked my outside and said we where leaving in 15minutes. So I took a little dead blow hammer and beat up some rotten wood. Sure I'm sure I have tons more I could be working on, but hey I want to take the bed off and start working in the rear down to the frame and then I'll start working forward.

Now I just have to break out the PB blaster and start working on all the fittings so I can get things apart. Man its going to be a pain in the ass, but I think it will be fun at the same time |

Long bed FTW. Looking good. You def. got a good score for only 400. I have a lot more than that in mine and it was worse than yours.

Bought it for 400, but by no means is it even close to being done. ;)
Its got rust in all the usual places and having zero body work experience its going to be a long road a head of me. Like I told the wife one day at a time. Her biggest fear was seeing the money pit pulling into the garage knowing that I'm gunho and won't stop until its done. I told her its 40years old and it took 40years to get into the shape its in and all I plan on doing is reversing time. So basically little time here and a little time there to get it back to what its supposed to be. So don't be surprised if this isn't a 5year old thread when I get it finally painted. :waah: |

No big updates, but started pulling more of the bed out. Man I had no idea the bed was a giant erector set. 8 bazillion bolts, but hey I'm having fun so far. Used my new Saw Zaw in the middle just because I could ;) Just pulled out the bed strips and hit the bed with some Rustoleum spray paint just to hold it over until I can start stripping, which hopefully will be in the new few months. But I'm going to try and tackle the frame and suspension components some before playing with body panels.
