Optional sway bar

I have a 1981 Service Manual, they are shown in there, they could go all the way back to 73 but not sure. Is says it was optional equiptment on 1/2 tons to 1 tons. Mostly pickups and Subburans. I believe van is different. Mostly for trailering specials and heavy duty 3/4-1 tons. Hope that helps you out and gives you a clue. I'd like to find a 1/2 ton version for rear of my 2 WD Blazer. Try to get all the mounting hardware and bushings with it.

Just buy a Hellwig rear anti-sway bar kit. They go for about $150, and JC Whitney sells them. I was lucky and bought mine for about half that used.

If you want a cheap rear sway bar, look for 3/4 and more likly 1ton pickups. They used rear sway bars somtimes. Be warned: I have read several heated arguments back at chevytalk saying if you plan on cornering hard, a rear sway bar is not a good idea on our trucks. Great for towing, bad for cornering. I am trying to find more info on this......

I have one and can take a corner as fast as you would ever won't to go. Someone at CT is pulling your leg. I bet they have never tried one before. Probably going by what they have heard, like you. :)

I agree, it's not needed nowhere near as much as a front bar is, because of the weight the front has, but it sure won't cause cornering problems. I know this for sure, because I have one, not guessing or going by hearsay.

Let me know what you find out Paul. If he's got some good stuff let me know.

Mike, these were actual discousions by multible people, not just one. Lots of tech. talk going around that I didnt quite understand. The thing that stuck out in my mind was it basicly makes the rear want to come out from you when you apply power more then without one [while in a turn] And I remember distincly that you reply'd to one of these posts :)

I have to agree with Mike on the rear sway bar, it will improve your cornering. The only time it will cause problems is on wet pavement, but that happens on all vehicles.

Yeah Tom, I remember the thread you are talking about. I was only messing with you.

If I remember correctly though, the guy who started all this mess was a Miata owner, or some such junk.

Believe me, I tried it both ways, with and without a rear anti sway bar, and I can tell you now, it handles better with it. But like I said, it's not as drastic of a difference because of the weight difference in front to rear. IMO, if you are doing a lot of towing, a rear bar would be a must.

It's easy to see, that our trucks won't have anywhere near the body roll in the rear as the front. Simple logic.

I'm keeping mine. Why? Because I like it. :)

Hey Mike im always making a wise crack about you saying anti :)

Tom I might be able to come on thursday, Friday is good for sure. Whats better for you?

I just got the brackets yesterday from the Gm dealer. I paid almost $10 for each bracket, you know the one that bolts to the frame.

Tom I looked for ammo for your .222 (no typo :)) at the gun show but it was a very small gun show :(. There is one coming up in december (http://www.crossroadsgunshows.com/gunsched.htm) its the bigger gun show. I will probly have an SKS by then and will be looking for accessories (gonna buy some bannana clips)
