Car Springs
 

My friend has all four coil springs from a 1970 Chevelle that I thought I would try under my stock '71 C/10.
I was wondering if there was any experience here about this swap.(Like will it work, and if so what kind of results. LOL)

I used a set from a 69 chevelle in one of mine with great results. I should have probably done it again, but ran into a set of drop springs this weekend and on the spur of the moment bought them. The ride really well, but don't plan on hauling very much with them in there.

I do have 'helper' half leafs on the back with three inches of space to the bumper.
I would be real happy with a 2/3 drop(for a while, hehehe). Finances have dampened the 4/6 target for a while.:smoke:

I run 70-72 monte carlo rear springs with air-lift drag bags.They're cheap, ride nice,and you can adjust the bags for a different ride.I did have to fab a different top spring mount so the airline could run:chevy: through the center of the spring.

I don't plan on hauling more much, you know, the semi-annual yard cleaning, a few boards from the lumber yard for small projects around the house, etc.
I guess the only other thing I'll need are maybe some shorter shocks. Any recommendations like a part number or application from a local parts store, or should I just order some from LMC, ECC or the like?

what kinda drop would be had from using springs like that?

I went to my local NAPA store when I was looking for shorter shocks for my '96. Their shock catalog will list the top and bottom mounting particulars and the stock length. What you have to do then, is look at all of the other shocks that have the same mounting and are the length you want/need. For my '96, which has a 4-inch drop from stock height, I am using '99 Tahoe/Suburban shocks.

On my '69, also lowered 4 inches, I am running KYB's from ECE. I don't know which aftermarket shocks would cross over in a catalog, but I am nowhere near having to find out.

I'm also considering shock relocation in the rear at least to get a more vertical mounted position.

That Camaro rear sway bar swap looked rather inviting also.
