axle bearings
 
I'm installing Moser axles with 5 on 5 bolt pattern on a 1966 C-10. Problem is I can't find the outer axle bearings anywhere. Instead, lots of places sell this "axle saver" kit with integral seal. Has anyone here ever installed one? If so, how do you do it? Or, better yet, what's the part number for just the bearing?

Need a little more info. Are you using the original 12 bolt housing? Are these c-clip style conversion axles? If you answered yes to these two questions, then you just need a stock style bearing for a '63-'79 pickup 12 bolt. I got on partsamerica.com and found these part numbers:

SKF #CR1559TV

SKF #R1559TV

National #S6408

And the seals for these are:

SKF #16044

SKF #C16044

National S8835S

If this is a narrowed housing with aftermarket ends, you're probably best off getting them from either Summit or directly from Moser. Of course you'll need to know what housing ends you have.

The housing is stock and I assume the axles will have stock bearing and seal surfaces, although they will have a smaller O.D. hub locator to fit 71-72 drums. I plan to order them directly from Moser on Monday.

Thanks for the bearing P/Ns. After my intial post, I found TRP1559TV. So, that makes at least 3 variations of 1559TV. The bearings in the axle are Torrington D2-68126 or 68176. And, yes, the seals are 8835S.

One more question: I picked up a pair of finned 5-lug drums yesterday, but they don't have the adjuster access holes. Checked my 69 pickup (which I converted to 5-on-5 twelve years ago) and its finned drums DO have the holes. Any idea of which mfr's drums have the holes?

Sorry but I don't have an idea on the drums. Probably wouldn't be that hard to make the slot yourself.....drill two holes and remove mat'l between them. Myself I prefer having the adjuster slot in the backing plate. That way you don't have to remove the wheels to adjust the brakes when needed. Which shouldn't be often since a '66 is supposed to have self adjusters.....first year for them.
