wheels and tire question
Does anyone know or have an opinion (man does that open a can) on how wide of a tire you can put on a 7 inch rim? (15in diameter)

Re: wheels and tire question
If you go to a tire manufacturers web site, and look at their specification page, it will show you all kinds of info. What that means: lets say you want a 235/60r15. find that tire size, and the kind of tire you want, and it will show you diameter, section width, UTQG, AND it will show you recommended rim width. Usually there will be an inch or two spread in the rim width, and see where ya are. Think I have ever done that before??? lol

Re: wheels and tire question
I have heard of 255/60/15 working, but I "think" that's about the widest while running safe.

Re: wheels and tire question
A 9" tread width will fit the 7" rim ok. Obviously you can mount a much wider tire on a 7" rim but it gets really dumb looking after a point. GM put 275/60/15 on the SS 454 trucks using the 7" rim. It looks good.

Re: wheels and tire question
it becomes unsafe after a point too.

Re: wheels and tire question
It`s a matter of the tread laying flat on the road, too.

Re: wheels and tire question
this is actually a double edged question...I'm looking for the widest possible tire for a 7" rim for my dirt-track car next year, so looks really don't matter AND I'm looking for the widest that look decent on the truck (unfortunatly it looking like thats also gonna be next year).

Re: wheels and tire question
I have run 275/60-15 and 255/60-15 on 7" rims. The 275/60-15 will wear out quicker though.
