Sticky steering wheel?
I got a realy nice wheel but it's all sticky. I've scrubed the crap out of it and it's better. However everything I've read on this subject says that it will come back once it get a good bakeing in the sun. Anyone come up with a solution? I was considering painting it with some clear, but i don't know if it will work. It's a 70-72 wheel with the rubber injection moulded plastic.
Any ideas would be great. Thanks... |

I have used a product called GOO-GONE that worked good. Just saturate a small rag or old wash cloth and wash it down. It should be available at your local Wally World or major drug stores. Give one of them a call and see. LockDoc |

Brake parts cleaner on a rag works well too.

Re: Sticky steering wheel?
Alot of stuff will work, I used laquer thinner and then 303 leather vinyl protectant to bring the color and sheen back and its been okay for ten years.

Re: Sticky steering wheel?
After you clean it it should be fine...
It does seem like they don't get sticky if you drive them every once in a while. |
Re: Sticky steering wheel?
get yourself a few of those cheap Mr. Clean Eraser type things from a Dollar General and some goo gone and go to town on the wheel. That's what I used on my 3 spoke steering wheel when I was restoring it. Trevor
