speakers in vents
 

I have an idea, probably been done, but here goes.........I was taking my vents off last night to paint them and thought, why not put speakers here? They would be small, but would be great for some small mid/tweet combo. `My a/c doesnot work, and prob. never will. there is no ducting goin to these small vents (and prob never will be!). So what do you guys think? Or do you have any details of ones that you've done? Ihave not put a stereo in my truck yet, and it won't be anything to show, but i want it to sound nice. plans for the truck are driver/worker, pass on to son in a few years.....Anyway, sorry to bable on, but i thought this would be cool, let me know, thanks, AC

You'll get a lot fo echo-ing from the vents. Its just not a good idea.

OK, thanks for your input, i just thought it would be a cool place to mount some highs since i have no venting!

Close off the backside of the vents and angle the tweeters so they fire out the vents. If you recess them far enough inside the vents no one will ever even see them in there. They used to do this years ago and probably still do in some custom installs.

It's not a good idea. Reason:

1) Mounting options sent, there will be extensive surgery to the vent. To mount a tweeter solid in there, you'll have to create a solid backing out of MDF, fiberglass, and epoxy.

2) If the tweeter is actually set inside of the vent, behind the "deflectors", then there will be serious echo-ing in the vent.

3) With all the trouble you'd go through, it's better to mount speakers in the dash corners, under the dash, or in pods under the dash.
