home made S10 body mounts?
Who has made thier own S10 body mounts? I have NO welding skills so i'd have to take the plans to a welder/machinist to get them done. I heard getting a set made is a lot cheaper than the kit. I'm curious who has made thier own or had some made and used them.

Re: home made S10 body mounts?
i did mine using jeffs plans but used square tubing. if you cant weld you could just drill and bolt through. i believe the thread is "not another s10 swap".

this worked out pretty good, or you can cut tubing 4x4 tubing.just use themeasurments off the pic

Re: home made S10 body mounts?
you may want to lower the mounts even the designer lowered them after looking at how high it sat. i dropped mine using a 2x4 plus the rubber mounts. just decide where you want the body heighth.

Re: home made S10 body mounts?
Swifty, the mounts are easily made using tubing or bent flat stock. If you need pics of the mounts themselves or have questions, just let me know. The question you need to ask is, "how much modification do you want to do?" The higher you go, the less changes you need to make. If you go six inches or more, everything rides on "top" of the frame and you don't have to cut much. I was there once and it worked ok. In my opinion, for the amount of work this swap takes, I have decided to go lower. Currently my front mounts are 3 1/2 inches plus the s10 cab bushing. The rear mounts are 4 plus the bushings. If you haven't checked out my thread, you can see it at http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=294539. If you have any questions, I will try to help out as much as I can.
Thanks, Jeff |
Re: home made S10 body mounts?
thanks for the replys! if you don't mind can you post pics of the mounts installed w/out the cab? I like the look of 2" above the frame but what cutten/mods is needed?
I originally was going to use the s10 swap kit that can be purchased but i kinda need to budget this build now, but i think we all know how that goes. Thanks again guys! this is my first frame off build and i'm pretty new at all of this so i'm sure i'll have a TON of questions as the build progresses. |
Re: home made S10 body mounts?
i have a 58' that somebody put on a later chevy pickup frame (67'-70) and they just used round tubing. the mounts are easy as you just need some wood to get your spacing and transfer to metal.

Re: home made S10 body mounts?
Be careful How much you lower the cab, it will affect other items such as the clearance between your trans tunnel and cab. This area would have to be modified/cut. I have found the optimum clearance between the distributer and stock firewall to be about an inch. In this position I have about a 1/2 inch clearance between my trans and cab. I fabricated 3/8's plates and bolted those to the frame, then fabricated mounts that placed the engine mount bolts about an inch above the plates. (Hope this doesn't sound too confusing)
The reason I mention this is because there is very little room to play in mounting the eng for and aft especially if you want to run a mechanical fan. I don't know how high my cab is sitting in relation to my frame I would have to measure but 10.25 sounds about right. |
Re: home made S10 body mounts?
i just used 2x3 tube. bolted it to the frame. pics in my post.. (s10 swap...yea another one)

Re: home made S10 body mounts?
I used the stock rear s10 mounts for the front AD mounts. The rear still uses the stock AD shackle

Re: home made S10 body mounts?
Has anyone used these mounts for an AD Suburban. I am wondering if they're the same? I am compiling parts for my tear-down and rebuild.
