Looking for 71 c20 rear suspension opinions
I am currently in the process of rebuilding a 1971 long bed fleet side pickup. The truck originally had a camper in the bed, along with monster rear leaf springs. It had 18'' steel wheels with a 31'' outside diameter and still had 10-12'' of clearance in the bed side. During the rebuild I plan to do some modernization. The drive train will be a rebuilt lt1 engine that will be bored and stroked with an edelbrock top end kit. I plan to keep the DANA 60 rear end in order to handle the power from the new engine. I have no interest in lowering the truck other than for improved handling characteristics. My question is this, is there a better alternative to the rear suspension than the standard rear leaf? I have access to a plasma torch and welder, so some fabrication is not out of the question.

I have a 70 C20, and it seems we have the same plans for our trucks. So, Bump for the answer!! :)

I'd think new leaves so that way the steel isn't all old and probably sagging or stuff like that is about it unless you wanna go 4 link like all the big lifted trucks go w/ which for your purposes would be way overkill unless your building it into a trail rig or something.

I would definitely replace the springs with new. I'm looking for an upgrade to the suspension system for street performance/drag strip. When pushing 500+ horsepower I worry about wheel hop.

If youre worried about wheel hop, just convert it to trailing arm suspension out of another 67-72
