Hydroboost Question
 
I just replaced my power brake mastercylinder and booster with a hydroboost mastercylinder from an '83 chevy 1ton truck. the rod was about 1/4 inch shorter than the original one. My question is, am I going to have a problem or is this setup fine?

Im not 100% sure, but I would think you would need to extend the rod :cool:

Where is it a 1/4 short? pedal to booster or booster to master? If its pedal to booster I wouldn't worry. If its booster to master you need to fix it. Look at this

I did the same swap and had the same problem. I cut the rod in half and threaded both ends. I believe it was 7/16 diameter. Then I connected the two with a coupler nut and adjusted the length and locked it all in place with jam nuts. Hope that makes sense. I could get some pics if you need them, I'm just feeling a little lazy...it is 11:30 :-)

The rod is shorter from the mastercylinder to the pedal, there is no longer a booster. I can push the pedal all the way to the floor, but I have not hooked everything up so there is no pressure. I just didn't know if the 1/4 inch would be a big deal. beater69, pics would be great if you have any. Thanks

ummm. you do tooo have a booster. it's just hydraulic.
the biggest concern is play in the pedal when the pushrod is all the way extended. you can maybe adjust your pedal stop to the new shorter pushrod length? do our brake pedal assemblies even HAVE stops? i hate it when posts make me want to go out in the cold and climb around in my truck!!!

Ideally you would thread one side LH tread and the other RH. but I just threaded both sides the same and adjusted the length before I bolted the rod onto the brake pedal. I soaked everything in loctite to just for good measure :gi:
Hope this helps. You should check out yukon jacks write up too. I was going to do it the same way he did his but I could find a clevis rod end. Oh well...
