Door opening noise/popping

I have a 07 GMC classic sierra 2500hd crewcab 4x4. 10K miles and well taken care of.

Problem is with front passenger door. Whne opening and closing we get a load popping sound from hinge area. I sprayed obvious parts with lithium grease to no avail.

Any help?

does everything line up?

Yes everything seems to line up. No where does it look like anything is close to touching. This is like new truck. 1 day it started doing this for no apparent reason.

so what pops? the hinge itself or is the spring just rubbing as it expands and contracts and maybe gets hung up and then pops back into its seat? it sounds like it has to be something simple.

I would guess a spring also...And has the door been slammed ? maybe a striker got mover around....I would also check ( at the post ) and make sure the upper and lower hinges are not cracked....G.M is known for the hinges failing there...I have replaced quite a few.....Was older years....04/05......But i have re-placed them on a 06 that had about 25,000 miles on it......

sounds to me it is the thing that holds the door open. Look on the hinge post between the upper and lower hinges is the flat rod that holds the door open. It may be loose on either side . If the wind has caught the door at some time it may need replacing .I t is not hard to do, just remember when removing the door panel lift up not out. Jim

Jim i think you are thinking of the check strap....And if my memory serves me G.M does not use them on the full size trucks...The (check) should be built into the hinge....And you are correct about the door panels......should be 4 (7)mm screws....

Our 04 HD @ work did this after the wind pulled out of his hand. It popped a little and had to put a little more effort into closing it. The body shop fixed it and its all good now (I think it was about $170 total, but we had some maintenance work done also, oil change etc).

Yes, it should be the check link, or strap. It'll be a black section of thin metal about 1.5" wide.
