Old bed, new bed floor?

I want a new steel bed floor for my SWB, out of a newer Chevy truck. Has anyone used a new floor, trimmed it down to make it work on a '67-'72 SWB?

If so, what issues can I expect?

Thanks in advance!

FYI you can get them for our trucks from Brothers. A little on the expensive side IMO...

I was considering a newer bed and just swap the the outer skins, but was told the wheel well openings aren;t the same. If it truelly is just the floor you want it wouldn't eb hard to match with some welding and be MUCH less than $1000 for the new stamped 8' beds. They also make front and back halves, but still $$$$$

About 10 years ago I put a floor out of a then new silverado in my cousins 66. It was a step bed . It took the better part of a day to make it work but it turned out great. I have also had that thought for my 70 but have not yet put a tape to it. I have some late model beds that have not been sent of to the scrap yard yet. I try to do some measuring next week. Jim

We have never done it, but I have seen stepsides done with late model donors. The shop that did it says it wasn't hard at all.

Man, if I could get some ideas on measurements, that would be a huge help! Let me know what progress you make..

Thanks!

I was looking at a later model ford f250 at work the other day. it looked like the center section of the floor in between the wheel wells actually seperated (or unbolted) from the bedsides which had the wheel wells molded to the bedsides. Does that make any sense? If I had a tape measure I could have measured it. It looks like a perfect rectangle that might fit perfectly in a stepside.
Here is a pic found on the net. Look in front of the wheel wells on both sides. The line that runs the length of the bed is actually a separate part of the floor. The whole center section is one peice, and the bedside/ wheel wells are another peice. make any sense?
