do i have to much trani fluid in trani

when i put the truck in drive it takes right off and spins the tire then i try to stop it and it kills it, the engine is never running vey fast even when it takes off. wondering if i have to much transmission fluid in and i can't check it since i can't run the transmission to warm it. what is the easiest way to take some out.

drain it, replace the filter and refill with the appropriate amount.

It sounds to me more like a carb problem though...

Never heard of such a thing being caused by to much fluid. Sounds like a broken torque converter maybe. This would happen with a 'lockup' torque converter if it wasn't unlocking.

anyway to unlock it without taking it out.

if it is a lock up tranny, then it would have a couple of wires going to the tranny, unhook them, that will disable the lockup function....

What exactly are you working on? What truck? What year? What transmission? 3 speed auto? Auto w/ overdrive? Got any pics of the engine?

Sounds to me like your engine idle is set too high.

Start it, let it run for 20 minutes. Then while its in PARK check the tranny fluid level.
