Looking at a truck to buy
Help!! My newest truck is a 1991 s10 with 300k miles and I am looking to replace it with something bigger that I can fit in better since I am 6'7'' and the single cab of the s10 has alway been too small for me.
I am looking at a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Crew Cab 4WD 6.0 swb for $9500, and was wondering if I could get some advise on the truck. I realize that there would be a decent mpg difference from the s10 to the 2500, but I think I would be ok with that. http://www.richhartsautosales.com/carsforsale.aspx or http://www.dealercarsearch.com/allph...bgColor=000000 Thanks for any help, Scott |
Re: Looking at a truck to buy
From what I've been told by friends that have that set up you can expect to get around 14 to 15 mpg on daily driving. The difference in handling and load capacity will be beyond description and all for the better. They are awesome trucks.
One thing to remember is that the 2500s run E rated tires. They are expensive to replace. If you don't need the load carrying capacity of the 2500, concider a 1500 crew cab. The interior room is the same but the bed is 8" shorter. You would get better mileage gy 4 to6 mpg. Just something to think about. Bob |
Re: Looking at a truck to buy
My roommate has basically the same truck you are considering. It's been a great truck. Fuel economy at 14 or 15 mpg unloaded 10 or 11 loaded. If you do alot of heavy towing I'd spring for a duramax if your pocketbook can stand it, otherwise a 1500 might save you a little in fuel if you're not planning on working it too hard. Hope this helps.

Re: Looking at a truck to buy
I drive close to 100 miles a day round trip to work and back. I had an S10 extended cab 4X4 and got 18 mpg. I am 6'5" and the extended cab S10 was ok. I traded for a 04 Silverado extended cab 4x4 and now get 17 mpg, but the extra room and comfort is so much better.

Re: Looking at a truck to buy
I wanted to thank everyone for their help in giving your opinions. I had to buy myself a christmas present this year.(and the next 5 years according to the wife) My s10's brakes went out last week, and there was no point in fixing her back up. I found a great deal on a 2003 CCSB 4x4 1500HD and my wife actually approved of the deal! Amazing right. Anyway, I just wanted to say thanks to everyone on this board for helping me out. I will try to get pictures of it up soon.
Thanks, Scott |
