Which C notch kit is the best or easiest??
I have read many articles and threads on just about all the different c notch kits our there. Here is the thing. I have a 66 short stepside and I am going with the rat rod theme/look. I am not going to go crazy and super c and cut the bed out. I just want to put in bolt in kit and then do a mild air bag kit.
I have head that some of the kits do not fit like they should. Some require more then what appears. I have heard some are built cheap, so and so on. I am reaching out to you guys, whom I trust to give both negative and positive feed back.. I want one that come with the templet. I have heard of nightmares of guys trying to install by tracing the bracket with no measurements and getting way off center. I heard there is one kit that comes with a templet and is super easy to install and can be done in a few hours. Thanks for the help guys. |

I installed the cpp c-notch. Fit like a glove as far as setting in the frame, all kits i think pretty much are going to require you to cut off old rivets and notch the frame. Can't speak for others but i am very pleased with the one from cpp. Used old rivets as a template in this one and the bolts went in thier place , think i had to drill a couple bolt holes. Can't remember 100% was over a year ago when i installed. Get ya a sawz all or get busy with the grinder wheel and i used a air chisel to pop rivets with a punch (those were the hardest in my opinion). Have to ignore the kids strollers in the pic.

Dang Sir, that bump stop almosts looks like it would defeat the purpose of a notch.

Until you bottom out on a bump and wack metal on metal. ;)

Re: Which C notch kit is the best or easiest??
CPP kit was very easy to install, even with the bed on

Re: Which C notch kit is the best or easiest??
I was trying to get away without the C notch but think that is not going to work. If I do C notch I will use the CPP notch as well.

Here's rokcrln's write-up. It is a pretty simple mod to do.

Re: Which C notch kit is the best or easiest??
I've seen other notch their frame and use a half piece of pipe welded in to smooth out the bottom. Cheaper c-notch idea...

Re: Which C notch kit is the best or easiest??
I'll probably go that route if I do another one. The one's I have seen on here had 4" pipe for the notch and then the back was boxed for added strength. Definitely cheaper than the bolt in, but I would think it is a little more time consuming.

Re: Which C notch kit is the best or easiest??
I got my notch from cpp , mentioned an add i saw in a magazine for like 79$ i think. I am cheap myself but sometimes by the time you try to built your own you will have a lot more time and sometimes money tied up in it in the long run.

Re: Which C notch kit is the best or easiest??
Got mine from cpp the same way but they tacked on $25 shipping so I did save but not as much as I thought I would. And you are right about saving in the long run on prefabbed parts(on both time and effort).

Re: Which C notch kit is the best or easiest??
Anybody ever ordered from Brothers? The have a kit in there for about $179. says it comes with "detailed instructions" Are there resto parts even worth ordering?

Re: Which C notch kit is the best or easiest??
I order stuff from Brothers Trucks on a regular basis. Nice quality parts and their sales are hard to beat. I buy my suspension parts from CPP though. Everything I have gotten from both places has been first rate but CPP can be a little slow to ship for some reason. At least that's been my experience. On a side note, I am running a 5 inch drop in the rear with no C-notch. I'm sure it would be better with one but I rarely bottom it out. I did saw my factory bump stops down to about an inch thick for a little more travel though. Just doing that made a big difference. Once I convert to air ride I plan to install a huge step notch from ***************** or a similar place. Here's a link on installing a CPP C-Notch...
