static drop Z'ed pictures
Any one with a Z and springs and spindles? Just wondering what if anything has been done. Pictures will help me out.
Thanks Juan |
Re: static drop Z'ed pictures
Not a likely combination, but who knows. Anyone...?
|
Re: static drop Z'ed pictures
this is a silly combination.. Kinda like running a bodydrop without a adjustable suspension. Not a great idea. if you really wanted a lower look with out the suspension mods.. i would look into "channeling" like the old hotroders back in the day..
no, bodydropped and channeling are not the same.. more like cousins...lol..good luck and keep us updated on your progress! |

I think that a mild z (2 inches or so) a set of dropped spindles and stock springs would be a good combination. You would be able to retain your stock suspension geometry and have 4 to 5 inches of drop in the front end. You could leave the motor mounts the same and get a removable tranny tunnel for extra clearance. I personally have gone with a 4 inch "z" and I'm going to run bags. I moved my engine back 10" and now have to make a big hole in my firewall!!

Just wondering why you moved your motor back so much? |

I wanted to set the engine as low as possibly in the frame. I also wanted to move the weight of the engine/tranny back in the frame for better wieght distribution. Right now the oil pan is 1 inch above the lower frame rails and the front crank pulley is about 1 inch behind the front cross member. I always like a good challenge as well!

Now you'll have to buy a procharger to take up some space between radiator and waterpump. good excuse to buy more toys for it anyways. Never thought of doing one that way. looks good, have any more pics? |

Re: static drop Z'ed pictures
I was not being negative with my comment on channeling.. I was just trying to save the man from possible set-backs.. he asked for our opinions and i offered mine. I was not negative.. or "bashed" the man in any way.
As for the van comment. I am sorry if this caused friction. |
Re: static drop Z'ed pictures
if your comments are made in jest, you might try using smilies, so others can see that you are kidding.....
could you explain the differences between channeling and body dropping? they accomplish the same thing, correct? moving the body lower in relation to the frame? |
Re: static drop Z'ed pictures
i think a static dropped truck channeled/body dropped/Z'd would be awesome...
isnt there a guy on here with a early 60's Burban like that? |
Re: static drop Z'ed pictures
It would be awesome until it catches a manhole cover and then causes a multiple car pile up.
|
Re: static drop Z'ed pictures
well i wasnt thinking an inch of the ground...lol... just a nice drop.. a bodydrop and a 4" suspension drop... or a z...not both
|
Re: static drop Z'ed pictures
Correct me if I'm wrong
Channeling is where you make "Channels" in your floor for the body to set over the frame And a body drop is lowering the body over the floor |
Re: static drop Z'ed pictures
^^ is right.. from what i have understood back in the day ('50s) the olderguys on here may know but sense there were no adjustable suspension to speak of the would cu the floor of the car over the frame rails. Work with me here.
Ok , i have no clue what the deal is with this particular build.. but anyway... This is channeling.. http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/j...hanneled-b.jpg http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/j...10-floor-d.jpg and this is a tradish. BodyDrop: http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/j...struction2.jpg This is actually cutting the outer edge of the floor and lowering the body around the frame.. Yes.. Both will get you the same results.. but the are diffrent from one another.. and in my opinion..neither are safe. A Stock floor bodydrop is the safest way to go in my op. but once again.. that is another monster.. |
Re: static drop Z'ed pictures
Old school guys did "body drops" just like shown above on the blue truck and called it channeling.
I don't care what the mini truckers call it. |
Re: static drop Z'ed pictures
:uhmk:I dont like the term "old school". if that is the case.. who an what was before the

Re: static drop Z'ed pictures
I don't care what hairs your splitting, those can be called channeling or body dropped as far as I'm concerned. one of them has 2 "channels" and the other is one large "channel"
IMHO ...flame on!!! i really can't believe i'm saying it.....but, :agree: with Shane :jdp::exit: |
Re: static drop Z'ed pictures
it's cool joe ... eventually everyone tends to see it my way ... some just take longer than others.
