Yo! My FRANKENTRUCK has shorty headers into 2.5" exhaust with 2.5" "H" pipe and offset turbo mufflers,...2.5" duals straight out the back.

It sure cuts it for me! Todd.

Re: Headers and exaust system help

Yo! Rumbles nicely, but not loud enough for tickets,...as long as you're not at WOT!
Same system in my '76 Camaro, but with long headers and no "H" pipe (haven't found enough room for it yet,...someday!). I daily drive THAT bad boy and no tickets for noise,...but don't punch it next to a police cruiser! 'Course the smokin' rubber would be the reason ya got pulled over, not the noise!
Todd.

Re: Headers and exaust system help

I'm running Hooker long-tubes on mine to 3" Cherry Bomb header mufflers with short turn downs. I'm eventually going to run them all the way out the back.

Re: Headers and exaust system help

I'm running dual flows with 3'' pipe. I would strongly suggest 3''. It will sound alot better.

Hedman shorties, 2 1/2" all the way back to 40 series Flows. Sounds great, but not obnoxious. On idle it sounds very throaty and when you get on it, it really sounds good!

what about the flowtech afterburner series longtube headers?

Yo!
Sounds like andrist1 has a similar system to mine. "Throaty" describes the sound nicely,...
Any of you checked out the HP increase that the "H" or "Y" pipe will provide? Check the dyno numbers, it's phenominal! Well worth the cost of installation,...Summit Racing has the 2.5" "H" tube kit for $35!
Todd.

Re: Headers and exaust system help

I'm getting ready to replace my headers because my wife says they're ugly and she wants shiny ones! The wedding is paid for and the spending freeze is lifted. :bann:

I'm also going to replace the rest of the exh with 3" instead of 2 1/2". I'm currently using Dynomax headers and Turbos. See below. Very "Throaty" with the BBC.

I know, the tires are on backwards in the pic. I've changed them though. :)

Re: Headers and exaust system help

Spin tech makes a loud muffler. IF I was going to redo my system I would shell out the money for some good quality tubing( stainless 3 inch) and some ceramic coated headers. IT costs more but will last alot longer. As mentioned above a H or X pipe will add alot over a traditional straight dual. I n addition I would compromise for a quiet more throaty muffler and add a set of electric cut outs. That way it is quite normally but can be loud when you want.

Any of you guys think yall could give me a rough estimate on about how much it would cost for the kind of set up that 84 400 is talking about?
