spring length
I have two questions, is the 3/4 ton springs the same length as the 1/2 ton springs?
What is the trick to getting the front bolt out on the springs, how do you get a wrench in there? |
Re: spring length
No 3/4T springs are longer than standard 1/2T springs. They are the same as HD springs on a 1/2T though.
IF the bed is on the truck, it will be an experience, but it can be done. |
Re: spring length
so would you have to move the spring hangers to get the 3/4 ton springs to work in a 1/2 ton suburban?

Re: spring length
Since I just took all the springs off my truck I have just been in the same experience. I took a sawzall and cut both sides of the bolt from underneath the spring hanger. Was the only way I was going to be able to get it apart. I didn't care that much because I was swapping all new springs in, so I just wanted them out of the way.
Also, I don't know the length difference between the springs, but if they are fairly close you may be able to take up a little extra length with just the rear shackles, but again I don't know what the difference is. Good luck with your swap. |
Re: spring length
No,don't really wanna cut em off,no money to replace!

Re: spring length
Don't quote me on this, but all of the Suburbans I have owned and seen came with the 3/4T springs. They are 56" long (30" from the bolt to spring eye). Might measure yours to verify.

Re: spring length
They might come with the hd springs, but just with a visual comparison,I can tell you that there are about two or three springs less on the suburban.I think that I am going to keep them though, cause most of my weight will be a on a trailer,it being a suburban,to only the tongue weight should come into play, and I want it to still ride nice.

Re: spring length
How many leafs are on these Suburban rear springs ?
Reason I ask is, I have the HD springs on my truck. It originally had 8 leafs with a HUGE helper spring and the ride was awful. I pulled identical leafs out on each side but the end result was not equal. If these Suburban springs are softer than the 3/4 ton springs, they might be good for trucks with HD springs that need a softer spring. |
Re: spring length
Yeah I think they only have like 5 leaves in them, but I will check for you when I get a chance.
