an idea..

hey guys, i have been shaving things on my truck left and right, but i looked at the hood today. i have a 79 and it was the slots on the top toward the windshield. what im wandering is can i fill these in with metal? all exept the ones for the windshield washer in them, do them half way or somthing. has anyone done this? is this a good idea?

I've never seen it done, but those are vents, possibly to get some of the air out from underneath the hood.. if you weld them up, it might put a lot of stress on the hood latch and such. I don't really know for sure, so hopefully some of the more knowledgable guys here will let you know for sure.

Yo!
They provide air circulation to the cowl, which allows air into the interior of the truck. For fresh air, fan, defrost, heat, etc,...
I suppose you could depend on air flow through the space between the rear edge of the hood and the windshield for the cowl. Not sure how that would effect it's function. Todd.

You can shave them, but the venting will not be nearly as functional as before.

What my room mate and I are thinking about doing is cutting them into three large sections and adding very fine screening, just for something a little different.

so if i shave them then the vents wont work right? what about the heater and ac?

Re: an idea..

It will work the same, just potentially have less air flow. Those vents are at a high pressure area aerodynamicly and use that to force air in through the A/C. I think it will still work, just won't blow quite as hard as it used to.

well i dont think that when i redid the interior, that all the air ducts found their way back home:dohh: so i dont think it would really matter that much, its not my DD

If you shave them , shave all of them . Remove the windshield squirter assemblies fron the hood and mount them to the cowl area of the cab . Then you can completely smooth the hood . I think it would look good . If you will have A/C when done , just run it on max and it will recirculate the cab air and not rely on outside air. No restriction that way .

yea i was thinkin about the squirters for the window and what i could do with them. i thought about just making it look smooth, but have it inducted where it will still work, but look smooth. how would i relocate them where the hood wont disturb it when i open it?

Use wipers that have the squirters built in.

You can shave them as stated, crossflow will be impeded, but it will still work. Restricting air is like restricting water, it will find a way in.
