Pacific Coast Customs Shop Truck
 

Here's one of my many irons in the fire. I bought this truck as a driving truck with plans to lower it down on air and drive it around and paint the shop logo on the door. Needless to say that was a few years ago and the only time I drove the truck was on that trip home from the previous owners. Plans are to make a "cool" truck. Its going to be patina'd to where I won't worry about expensive paint and stuff like that, but rather just hop in and have fun. The truck is being built as if it were a push truck out at the races back in the day. In the headache board is going to be a recessed old wooden creeper, there will be a couple jeep cans mounted in the inner bedsides, a floor jack, onboard air and tools as well. Hopefully I don't jinx myself to being broke all of the time! Here are the renderings we have from Carter Hickman:

So the first thing I did was put a one piece window kit, here's how it looked when I got it (looking back I don't know what I saw in it):

While I was putting in the windows I decided to go ahead and paint the roof white at the same time. It cleaned things up a lot!

Then I went ahead and jacked it up and got it ready to lay out. I tried to everything as frugle as possible mainly using left over parts.

Here's some of the work on the rear suspension. I realize the bag on axle isn't going to be the best ride out there, but I was going more for simplicity, and a guy gave me the chrome 4-link so I figured I would use it.

I wanted to make the notch all flush with nice finished edges to where it didn't look far off from the stock frame, so I built the edges out and welded up the lightening holes to add some style as well

Here's where the front lower arm bolts up to the frame. There's a piece of solid stock that runs through to the other side of the frame and is recessed to where the nut doesn't stick out past the inner boxing plate.

Its going to be a pull out old school wooden creeper like this one, it was a bit hard to portray what we were going for in the drawing, it goes with the shop truck theme.

Great project!
I like your taste in style. I would keep the chrome smoothies--it's just a good look for the truck.
I like your other ideas--creeper is cool!

Here's some pictures of the front end work. I did this before the Drop Members were out, so I did it the hard way. I think I sectioned it 3 inches (It was a couple years ago) and moved it foreward 2 inches to push the wheel to the front of the wheel well opening. Then I took a walk through the wrecking yard next door and found an '04 Chevy Pickup Rack and Pinion that would work with where I had the crossmember placed. It wasn't easy to mount though...

I don't have any build shots of doing the crossmember but here it is tacked in a bolt in rack mount fabricated so that you can take the rack out with the engine installed:

Yea it's still there. Who knows when it'll get worked on again! I'd like to have the time to, I just don't have too much of that anymore.

I didn't like the way the crossmember hung up over the frame and it didn't look too sturdy for the upper control arm mount, so I decided to fab up some overkill bracing in the front that would brace the crossmember, be a shock hoop and be incorporated into some inner fenders one day, also probably a pre-runner style engine cross-brace.

Some of the last things I did to it was to pull the cab all the way off and go through and box the whole chassis and take out the factory crossmebers and add some round tube braces.

This photo still had the stock crossmember in. I also welded up all of the holes in the outside of the frame and ground off all of the rivets and TIG welded on all of the body mounts

I still have the drivers side to do, we were rushing to get it to a show and its a little more difficult with the steering shaft on that side

so whats with the hoops? rolecage? shocks? and i assume custom headers for the rack. and what did the rack come off of i'm wanting to convert my truck once i get started

The hoops support the upper a-arm mount of the crossmember and will also be used as shock mounting hoops and also just cause they look cool (or at least we think they do). They will also be incorporated into the inner fenders. The rack is out of a newer '04+ chevy pickup 2wd.
