Does your wife help you work on you truck?

Hey guys I was just wondering how many of us are lucky enough to have our wives "willingly" help work on the projects. I realized how lucky I am when she logged on to the site and posted on a board trying to get me a Christmas present. I would have never known, except, someone made a comment regarding the fact that she did it. So of course I got the email to the forum.

Oh yeah... those who have to fight the other half just to buy a few parts..... "I'm sorry."

Yeah right. Though she will help if I ask her to something like pump the brakes etc.

not wife, but my g.f does. She has to. VW beetle rear axle nut is 300 ft/lbs. She is 120 lbs and cannot find a 40 foot breaker bar.

My wife God love her only knows I have a truck when she needs something hauled for one of her friends, or when there's shoe money missing and the hood is up??

Re: Does your wife help you work on you truck?

My wife has no interest on helping me.

In fact, when I built my first bike, I had all the parts shipped to my work. Lol

I'm right down the road from you. Im near Almeda mall.

I'm weird, I actually don't like anyone helping me, well, except one person, but my dad lives 700 miles away in that crazy place where it snows all the friggin' time!!!

Re: Does your wife help you work on you truck?

Actually, she does help me. She brings me drinks when it's hot out. That is the extent of her automotive knowledge

Oh, and she thinks the truck looks "Pretty".

Re: Does your wife help you work on you truck?

Mines is always willing, sometime won't leave me alone until she gets to do something. It's really cool. I'm actually agreeing with 67chevyredneck, I like doing it alone a lot of the time. Turn the radio on and open the garage.

Yup,my wife actually did most of the work pulling the engine and trans out of an El Camino that we had awhile back. She wanted to learn so I let her have at it.She loves it and so do I.She will buy more parts at a parts store than I will lol

Re: Does your wife help you work on you truck?

You are one of the lucky ones!

My wife isn't interested in helping me mech-a-nic, but she sometimes brings me food if I'm pulling a late night. She rarely complains when I buy parts or trucks---pretty fortunate there!

She does point trucks out to me when we are traveling and she doesn't complain when I stop to look at one for sale.

I wish she were more interested, cause I would build her a really nice one. I tried to talk her into a 72 4x4 Burb about 8 years ago, but she wouldn't go for it!

She actually wants one of those VW Things. I'm not sure I could make myself work on one. At least it is from the 70's!!

Good Thread!

That's cool, I work in La porte and take the beltway to Fairmont.

Mine is a 68 with a 71 front clip. Just got it about 2 weeks ago.

Trying to trade someone on Craigslist some fishing gear or motorcycle parts for a welder so I can start some panel replacement.

Ever need an extra hand, let me know. Im a mechanic by trade and have just about every tool needed.

The only help I get from my wife is not *****ing about me spending money, however she wants a 70 chevelle or a 70 cuda she definetly knows what to ask for.

My wife doesn't help either.

I asked her to stand next to my truck in a bikini to help sell it, but she wouldn't even do that.

Re: Does your wife help you work on you truck?

:lol::lol:

The truck is a necessary evil to her, but she understands the sentimental value and that it's a part of the fleet.

The garage is what passes for a man-cave around here, so I'm generally on my own, unless I can get the heir and the spare (2 boys) to join me.

Re: Does your wife help you work on you truck?

Well were can I start. When I met her she had a YJ jeep that she installed the stereo in her self. One of our early dates was an over night tent camping/ snow wheeling trip that she loved. As soon as our last house was 100% finished including grass and flowers she was up for selling it so we could buy a dump with a 1200sq shop in back. She has her own welding gear but has not had the time to learn yet with our 17 month old son running us both around non stop. She likes going to all the car shows with me and on our nights out we better take my 70 SWB if I know what is good for me. Then the topper for our wedding she said it would be cool to have an old car for the pics so what was I to do but go out and buy a 67 SS 396 Chevelle with 30k on the ticker and she was the one pushing me to get it! She has helped pull motors, beds (with my cab/bed lift) and cut parts up with a salzall when needed. She also has a great eye for detail and proportion's so I always ask what she thinks of new mods and she is normally right on even if I don't agree at the time I normally come around and agree.

Yep she's a keeper!

My wife (aka "tool *****") helps me when asked and is always willing to say "Just go get a new one". During my current restore she *****ed about everything being new or rebuilt except the alignment spacers, now I have a gift certificate to LMC and new alignment spacers. PS, that's her 69 Camaro that I built and am restoring, or so she says.

Re: Does your wife help you work on you truck?

Mine keeps the cold drinks coming or brings out dinner if im working late . She also likes the transformation from old truck to classic . I see her looking at my work and being proud of it . You know it looks bad then painted , wheels blasted and painted with new rings and caps , fresh bed wood , new carpet , she likes seeing it come together . I pile up parts so i have everything ready , then take on one project at a time . She is supportive and occasionally likes to ride around with me .

wow, must be nice. I'll admit my Girlfriend loves driving around with me, and she even uncorked the headers once, all by herself! and then she rode around with me while i made all the noise!

she wanted to learn, so now she can name every single part under the hood. including the power steering pump & fuel pump. i was pretty impressed. im teaching her engine internals soon

Re: Does your wife help you work on you truck?

6 years of marriage she's helped me pump the brakes a couple of times and once waxed my wheels. She doesn't say much about the trucks...just tolerates them. Doesn't like gasoline, exhaust, or gear oil smells. We don't see eye to eye on the $ but we've learned to compromise. Her name is Jessie, but she's no Jessi from Extreme 4x4, I don't think I'll ever catch her welding.

She's starting to see my point that at least I have a hobby that keeps me home, not at the bar or hunting somewhere.

Gotta love her though because she keeps me in line on everything else.
