short step bed
has anyone put a metal bed floor in a step side
|
Re: short step bed
There is a company that makes one.
Someone will chime in here. Was a feature story in a truck magazine some years ago. Bolt together. |
Re: short step bed
Well nobody else has got in on this and it's something I'm going to have done to my bed. I myself plan on apiece of diamond plate alumiumn but I saw on the build page the other day where a member took the floor material out of a fleetside and put it in his stepside, I think it looked good but would like to see the product fine69 is refering to.

Re: short step bed
Thats the one I was talking about, I looked but couldn't find the build again. If I don't go with deck plate this will be what I think I'll do.

looks nice! A lot better than what a P.O. did to a truck I had a while back. They took a piece of 1/8" steel, cut to size, dropped it in and tack welded it in several spots. Stuff slid around like crazy on the smooth surface! It looked OK, but not as nice and well thought out as yours. I was able to grind the tacks, andthe divider strips underneath were reuseable! I just bought new oak for it, cleaned/ painted the strips and installed. Necessity is the mother of invention. |
Re: short step bed
this was actually a fleetside replacement floor that I found at a yard sale. The guy said he paid over 400 for it 20 years ago from JC Whitney. It was thin, but it did what I needed. PS --I picked it up for $50.
