What did YOU achieve truck wise in 2008...
3 Attachment(s)
Since the year is winding down, thought it would be a good time to post about your truck, burb, or blazer achievements for 2008 that you are proud of. :alky:
Could be anything... New project?? Finally finish one??? New paint??? New tires/rims??? Whatever....Run with it.... I finally got some work done on my K20. Fresh 350 swap, low mile 4 speed/transfer case from a 68 K20. Not running yet but hopefully soon. I don't have the grille, core, or bumper attached. Just wanted to see what it will look like. And don't forget guys...:wop: so post em up... |

I was given my brothers 72 C10. The day I got it more thing were done to it than the whole time it was his. Not sure what else to say about it.
So far I have: removed broken exhaust system, painted most of the truck, painted outside of frame, debadged it, taken beatup and mismatched trim rings off, a few more thing I cant remember. I had decided to get the hood to bare metal and paint it, the first spot I hit was bondo, I was sad, then I kept going. I went through a quarter inch of bondo in a 2'x1' area, and I found a bunch of stud welder holes. I'm guessing a small tree hit the hood, but I dont know. |

I lost ground!! Stole the motor and trans for another project, but I gained wheels and tires and started another motor for the truck.

I'm with ya on that. Picking up lots of little details. 2007 was a HUGE accomplishment, so I've mostly been fine tuning and enjoying FINALLY having a decent truck. |

Re: What did YOU achieve truck wise in 2008...
2008 Got me started, bought a solid 72 K10 body/frame in September, picked up a Chiltons & a Haynes, and jumped in with both feet...oh, and got registered user status here, probably the most important thing I have done! OK, while there are still no pics as of yet, here is a list of what was done so far:
New Battery, Alternator, Voltage Regulator, Cap, Rotor, Points, Condensor, Coil, Wires, Plugs, 600CFM Holley Carb, Moroso Valve Covers, Air Cleaner, Heater Core, Water Pump, Hoses & Clamps. Installed a manual choke just for days like today when it is -8 degrees outside and the rig is being a little stubborn starting. Removed a POS aftermarket radio that was installed with plumbers tape (UGH!), still looking for a suitable replacement, would prefer an original because I am not cutting anything to make room for a modern radio. Have an old pair of MBQuart speakers (Still in the box) and some new cable to install, so the sound quality should be fine. The floor mats were original and falling apart so I removed those as well, now I need to find something suitable to replace them with, I would like a one or two piece set capable of holding snow/water off the floorboards, but I am still looking. Scoped out LMC truck (Ordered free catalogs from them and Summit), found replacement gage clusters, the original still functions but is bare bones and in rough shape, so I am looking to upgrade the appearance and add Tachometer & Vacuum gages, I would like to stay as true to original as possible and am open to suggestions. Saving any body work and painting for last, trying to get the mechanical parts sound first but I am a bit concerned about corrosion prevention. Finally, I have been researching Lockers for the truck, living in Alaska can be a challenge, last year we had almost 20" of snow fall on one day...in MAY! My job requires I am available 24/7 so on days like that I want to make sure that if I get out and lock the truck into 4x4 that I have the best possible setup for my K10 while still maintaining a stock stance & clearance while running my 31's on stock rims, again any reasonable suggestions are welcome. Thank you for letting me post, its great reading about everyones rides and seeing all that you folks have accomplished, there are many inspirations on this board, a wealth of knowledge to tap, and plenty of humor, I know that both my wife and I have shared many a laugh since becoming members here, thanks! Well even though i still go to college and am away from the truck from sept to april i do manage to do quite a bit of work during the summers.....My truck went from being semi together and laid out to totally disassembled again to resurrect the floors, cab corners rockers kicks etc and shave and paint the firewall and bolt it back down for good.....It went back to almost the exact same state but with a cab that for what it started out as i am very happy with....now to make it run!

Re: What did YOU achieve truck wise in 2008...
2008 was the begining of my first project. Project BumbleBee officially started the day I left to go pick him up in Alabama back in November. Since then, I've basically just been cleaning on the truck. I finally got all my replacement panels and I've slowly been getting rid of the rust. Hopefully 09 will see a lot of change.

I did some work on the White Truck, like complete brake job w/power brakes, new rear e-brake cables, new headers and full exhaust, new rear wheel bearing seals, new CD& MP3 player, and rebuilt the carb. Also small stuff like paint the steering column & wheel, glove box door, & kick panels. I also bought the '72 GMC 4x4 as a project truck and finished it out. Sold it a week after I finished it. Now on to other projects…. LockDoc |

Got the stepper from lowly tow status to driving status. :) Moved her from Oregon to Arizona. I think that's saying something. :)

Re: What did YOU achieve truck wise in 2008...
Absolutely zilch although I have gathered some more parts including a camper shell for the bed and a nice shiny red flake steering wheel. Between being a full time stay at home dad to my two year old twins, working on the house/garden here and the house in France and keeping my daily driver running I seem to have little spare time. Couple that with having no garage and the wettest summer on record in the UK and its been a challenge. I'm hoping to try and get her back on the road for late spring but the weather so far ain't cooperating. We've had lots of high winds and now two weeks of snow and sub-zero temperatures and lots of rain in between.
Its always inspiring though to come on here and see what everyone else has done! |
