if it was me i would replace the whole cluster with a dealer unit. you can replace just the stepper motor, but you have to unsolder them from the printed circuit broads. easlier to jsut repalce the whole cluster

I have had about 10 to 12 of those 03's and most all needed a cluster. I buy mine at the dealer I buy crash parts from, it cost me about 220.00 for a cluster. I can replace it in about 10 min. Jim

Are the 03 affected by the recall/service bulliten? This is the same type of symptom. I know the 04 where the primary target of this issue, but a production date that falls close the 04s may get it in. You might check with a dealer service dept and see. Issues like this were common on the 04s and were replaced for free up until 70k miles. Our 04 HD at work would show 3k on the tach while sitting in the parking lot and would jump from 15mph to 50mph while only going about 20mph. It eventually hung around 45 and never came back. My stepdad's 04 charging guage showed high for a second and then dropped to nothing.

cluster, is that behind your dash? you say it takes you 10 min. to replace, therefore its easy to do? never ever heard of these. can you show me a picture of where replacement would go?:metal:

03 have special policy up to 70k miles on them I believe. I put a new one in our 03 Yukon XL @ 68k for the needle sticking and GM footed the entire bill... Call the dealer and ask, if they give you a run around about it call the 800 number in the back of your owners manual. If that fails there is a class action lawsuit on it all too. You shouldn't have to pay a dime unless you have really high miles on it or it has a branded title.

There is a guy in the Dakotas that rebuilds them for $185 I think. He did mine and my dad's 03's and have put another 75,000 miles on both and no problems.
