Friends Helping Friends
I haven`t been able to get any measureable amount of work done on any project of my own for awhile. But,I know people who are.I love messing with these trucks and also helping people makes me happy.
I never got any real pictures of the`72 shortbed I had when I joined the board. It was a 2 option fleetside (gauges & sway bar). The plan was to part out my`71 CustomCamper rather than restore and use parts to build the shortbed. The only pictures I took(low batteries/low light...oh well): http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...DSC00500-1.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...DSC00501-1.jpg I bought a rolling frame from Hart Rob and decided to build off of that since non of the shortbed`s sheetmetal was going to be used anyway. So,I sold the truck (back) to my friend Eddie. He tore it down to the frame and it`s going back as a`68 with a donor truck he bought for the hyper motor and incidentals. Here is where the build was at this fall. That`s Mike who is helping with the paint.Ted is doing the bodywork while Art and me are doing whatever when not running or mouths or tilting cans: http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z...s/IMG_1259.jpg http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z...s/IMG_1258.jpg http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z...s/IMG_1257.jpg http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z...s/IMG_1255.jpg The cab got painted a couple weeks ago.We got the windshield and back glass in as well as the door weatherstrip yesterday. The doors are about ready after another visit from Ted.I`ll get pictures of the painted cab.I need camera batteries. |

Re: Friends Helping Friends
Ted won`t be back until next weekend(after New Years Eve).We have the outer doors looking good and will prime this Saturday. The only holes after blasting were those pesky little ones that`ll pop up in the lower/inner front edge from water laying due to bad squeegies. The doors are off my old`72.
I`ll get pictures of the painted cab so you can see the color. It`s close to the stock`68 medium blue that the`68 donor was originally.Eddie,Art,and Mike (off & on) work for sign companies.Eddie is a fabricator,Art installs, and Mike paints. They`re a bit older than me and over the years have worked together(as well as built quite a few street rods over the years).Mike quit a body shop and went where Art works. The paint is standard sign stock and was way cheaper than from an automotive paint shop. It`s BC/CC. |
Re: Friends Helping Friends
Finally an update.I didn`t have my camera or awhile and missed some progress. These threads sure move back quick, too. But,I found it,lol.
The cab`s been painted for awhile and recently the doors and tailgate, too.Hung the doors today and started fitting the front end together. We worked on fitting up the front end after that.I got some pics with the (dusty) paint,at least... http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z...r/IMG_1515.jpg http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z...r/IMG_1517.jpg http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z...r/IMG_1516.jpg The truck`s got a Saginaw 4spd.Eddie likes those http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z...r/IMG_1518.jpg http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z...r/IMG_1519.jpg |

Re: Friends Helping Friends
Ok Tim. So are Eddie and friends members here too? Man I do love that shade of blue. I'm likin that wheel/tire combo too. And the suspension specs? Come on, spill the plans. ;)

Re: Friends Helping Friends
Eddie registered, just not much on the whole internet thing.IIRC,it has 4" drop front and rear. The wheels are 10".They were on his`85 shortbed when he bought it.He bought a `68 longbed for the motor and misc. parts. It`s got a 3.08 posi. The front end will be painted and on before too long.As you can see by the tech prime pics,he was going to leave the interior alone. It was turquiose and he was looking for a color to go with it.Then,he came up with this blue and went with all fresh paint.Good decision, huh? It gets a cowl hood. The dang back of the cowl induction is longer on one side and needs tweeking. This thing will have front and rear roll pans and he`s planning white rallye stripes on the hood.
He`s says this is his last project after building rods and bikes all his life...we`ll see.Never say never, right? |
Re: Friends Helping Friends
Nice shade of blue. I like that alot. Good luck.

Re: Friends Helping Friends
I saw a truck this color in a thread in the last day.It looked just like it to me.These guys work for sign companies and it`s a "stock" color they could get cheap from work.I`m sure it`s a match up to some automotive color originally.

Re: Friends Helping Friends
The fenders got fitted up last weekend.Boy,that left one coulda been made better. To get the top right the lower body line won`t line up.There was shimming and egging out on the right side.Everything`s adjustable, but the shape is off on the left fender.Yes,they`re the good ones. Not sure when they were bought or if they`ve changed. But,pretty disappointing,IMO.
To play it safe just the backsides will get color today, then mounted up another day.We already know the back of the cowl opening is uneven and needs work. We`ll see what else. |
Re: Friends Helping Friends
Looks great from where I'm sitting. I need your work crew for about a month.

Re: Friends Helping Friends
Ron,I can`t speak for the others, but I`d sure like to put time in for you.We all could use a little help. These things demand your time like a woman.Problem is,you can say no to a truck.
I kept forgetting my camera and it`s gone through a couple slow spells. The bedsides are ready for paint. Now,the Carolina Dealer`s Bike Rally (Myrtle Beach) will hold that up a couple weeks. But,it`s running and moveable,at least: http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z...s/IMG_1882.jpg http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z...s/IMG_1883.jpg http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z...s/IMG_1885.jpg http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z...s/IMG_1884.jpg His driver,an`86 Sierra:.................See my place in the background? http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z...s/IMG_1886.jpg |
Re: Friends Helping Friends
Tim, awesome progress..... nice looking trucks.
no more excuses about forgetting the camera if your only a couple of lots away.... |
Re: Friends Helping Friends
It`s not my fault.I blame it on Busch Light. And,once started it`s hard to stop...workin`that is.hiccup!
I don`t know what the final wheels will be.Maybe those wide spirals.I usually don`t care for them, but they aren`t so common anymore and the black looks good with the stripes and the width gives it that hugger look that was popular back around`70.the wheels came on the`86 which came from South Carolina. As many will know, that`s the popular look in that part of the country.right now his money is going to finish the project.Should be some w/bed shots by sometime late May/June. |
