update on intermittent wipers
1 Attachment(s)
I did install the intermittent wiper switch in my 69 and got it working. I also checked the price on the switch at work it looks like $50 give or take some change. Heres some pics of how the install went.
I had the dash allready out so it was pretty easy to start. the switch is pretty big as you can see. |

next i marked where the little square holes on the trim ring line up with the sheetmetal underneath and drilled them. Then I used taper head sheet metal screws and kinda countersunk the holes in the trim ring.

then i mounted the trim ring and drilled the hole to 1/4 in the original knob and put it on the new switch.

now for the wiring i drew up a schematic the wire colors match the wire colors on the new switch up to the relays. All in all i think it could be acomplished for around $60 - $75 maybe cheaper if you work at a place that sells the switches like i do.:)
|
Man outstanding work!! That looks great, and fairly easy.
Are you going to sell the switches? I cant wait to install ojne!!:D :D :D |
what is the switch originally for?
|
that is very sweet... i folled your other post but just as a refresher what kinda switch is it again????

cole hersee makes the switch www.colehersee.com. The one i have is out of a blue bird school bus. The only place that i can find that carries cole hersee switches are heavy truck and bus places. If you get a switch for something other than a blue bird the wiring may be different cole hersee has a bunch of switches that look identical but they are different. And yes i was thinking of putting together a kit of sorts but i have to see if i can get a little bit of a break on the switch prices. I will post when i know more about that.

Excellent info, I moved a copy of this to the FAQ board.
|
is there suppose to be pics??? on the main page it shows the little paper clip like icon to denote pics ... but when I open it, there arent any?
|
Uuuuummmmm, there was pics. . . .
|
Do you have the Cole-Hersee part # ?
Looks like I better buy some C-H stock tomorrow! |
umm oops....... I guess when I copied the thread it kinda screwed up the pics.... Email the pics to me chevy69@grandecom.net and I'll edit the posts and re add them.
|
Greatttt. I'm going to check back tomorrow for the pics. Big thanks to blue_69.

We Want Pics! We Want Pics!
Seriously though, I'll just check the FAQ board later. I was thinking about this awhile back when we had light rain, kept turning the wipers on and off. Thanks for the info. |
What is the part # for the switch?
|
I don't need intermittent, I just need REASONABLE!. Mine are so sloooooowww.
|
I updated this thread with the pics and also the thread in the FAQ's section. I planned to get more info on availability today but my friend in the parts dept. left early. If i can get some switches and relays for a reasonable price i will post them on the parts board. How much would you guys think is a fair price for this deal it looks like it will be somwhere between $50 - $75 for the whole deal relays all wired up and ready to plug in to you existing plug.
|
blue_69, wired & ready to install @ up to 75$ sounds fair.
|
ill take one
|
I would pay that for it.
|
Sign me up~!
|
I would take one at that price!!:D

Are the relays internal to the switch? Or, are they additional items to be added and mounted? I am guessing that the "30" that you show for each relay is an amperage rating...is that correct? The numbers "85, 86 and 87" are all connections on the relays, right? So, all three are identical.
Boy, I sure do ask a lot of questions. Nice job on the schematic. It is plain enough for me, so everyone else should be able to understand it, too. I got a price on a switch today, of $60, from our bus parts supplier. I am guessing this is comparable to yours. I sure need to see the switch to compare the wiring coloration. You've been a help to lots of folks with this info! |
Great work Blue! Thanks for you time and effort. This will aid all of us in getting the upgrades we desire. Jeff.
