10" wide rims too wide for the front on a c20?

Hey everyone... think 10" wide wheels is too wide for the front on my C20?

I saw these 16's on the local Craigslist and they're a pretty good deal:

Next question...

What is the ideal backspacing for some 10" wide rims?

What's a good tire size that would really fill up the wheelwell, but not rub?

you could get 9 1/2 inch rims stock.... so I say 10 inches isn't too much.

On a fleetside bed most any 10" wheel will fit inside the well....backspacing is generally 4.25" to 4.5" on most wheels. Most folks don't know that the stepsides are an inch narrower on each side and most 10" wheels of the day won't fit under the wells. I have 10" wagon wheels on my stepper [not my choice...they were on it when I bought it] and they stick out a bit.

I think my '73 C20 had 6.5" wide wheels and they looked very slim in the wheelwells....never seen or heard of any wheel wider than that from the factory on a 3/4 ton....were they steelies?

yeah, steel 9.5 or 9.75 X 16.5 steel rim, looked just like the ones youy are talking about.
Stllookin has a bunch of them.

The only rub at full lock or when bouncing over big speed bumps...LOL! BTW....33 x 12.5 x 16.5 tires.

That's a stellar longhorn!

Comments on the wheel/wheelwell spacing:

1) Tires have a lot to do with the whole scenario. A 10" wide wheel can take a 275 tire or a 12.5" tire. A 10" wide 16" tall wheel can take 35" tall tires or 28" tall tires, so don't forget to think about tires!

2) a few things I recently learned about track width:

I have a '74 12 bolt with drums in my 67C20, and 17x9 ralleys with 5" bs on the rear (I look at it like I have 4" of "frontspace"), and I have 1.5" of space between tire and fenderwell.

In the front, I have factory style 5 lug discs, and 17x8 with 4" bs (or in my weird world, 4" of "frontspace"). This leaves me about 3/8" between tire and fenderwell.

I guess what I'm getting at hear is that first of all, with factory discs and a "wide" rear end (71' and up if I'm not mistaken), the front track width is wider than the front. Secondly, you can fit a 10" wide wheel with discs and 4" backspace if your truck is stock height (just don't go 40mph over speed bumps!). But, you'd probably be happier if you ran 8" wide wheel on a factory height, factory disc truck.

But, as usual, I could be completely wrong.
