Possible Bed Swap: Long Fleet to Long Step..

Hey Guys,

I found a local guy with a 46-66 Chevy (not GMC) longbed stepside parts truck. The bed is complete with wood and all. It may need the back panel replaced but in overall good condition. The price aint bad either!

How rare are these beds on Chevys? Anybody here have pic's of a longbed stepside truck?

Thanks!

They are actually more common on 60-62 than the later ones I think
here are some shots:

I have one down at the shop(parts truck).I think it's a 64.
In case ya"ll don't know it,the fender that carries the spare is not the same as the shortbed fenders!Neither is the spare hanger! They are very similar in appearance.
The frame is the same as the longfleet.

Really? What is different? Longer?

There was an old boy in my town that had an original ShortStep with OEM spares on both sides.

The hole in the fender where the support rod goes is in a different spot.
And the support rods themselves are at a different angle where they bolt to the bedsides.
We tried to put the longbed fender on a shortbed in the shop and the spare brackets wouldn't line-up.

Thanks guys! The tan GMC is the look I like! I've seen this pic around for some time. The blue truck is sweet!

The fenders on the bed I've seen are full - no indent for the spares. There are holes in the passenger beside for the spare tire mount.

Some junk in the bed so the mount may be there. Will give a call to the parts truck owner tomorrow.

Here are a few pics.. Also anyone have the spare tire mount or pic of one?

I almost wonder if what was used was a fleetside bed mount spare tire bracket, looks like the same 2 holes are in the side of your bed... although having the tire sit on the step kind of defeats the use of the step.
we had a 55 once with a 10 foot bed, the spares were still mounted up high on the stepside bracket, they just didn't sit in the fender because the bed was so long.
