Is it worth the time/hassle? - 67 SWB
5 Attachment(s)
I wasn't looking for once...and somebody contacted me about a 1967 SWB that he picked up with 6 other trucks...this is the last one he has left - it is from the South so the rust is minimal...however - there is some rust.
Have a look see and let me know what you think - he is thinking $2000 - I am thinking lower - just not sure what to offer. My GF wants me to build her a truck next - so this might fit the bill... Specs: 1967 SWB - Small Window Cab Inline 6 - 3 OTC Wood Bed - Rotted and Gone Cab has rust in the front cab supports (the rears are pretty solid) Floors are solid - 1 or 2 small holes Windshield frame is solid - does have a leak though into the cab from a few holes drilled into the roof. (some rust on the psgr side drip rail area - pictured) Brakes will need to be looked at - it sat for many years Somebody added plenty of junk to the body over the years - turn signals, bed tie down anchors, front bumper guards, etc. Took a bit to turn it over - bad gas didn't help in the tank - so we put a fresh gallon or so in it and a few shots of ether to get it going and it ran great and idled smooth. Bushing in the column shift will need to be replaced... Have a look at the pix and tell me what you think I should offer... Thanks everybody. |

Wow, that has some interesting "Oldmanerized" accessories

Re: Is it worth the time/hassle? - 67 SWB
If I were you I would buy it make it into a sweet patina. I mean the good stuff, the entire truck redone except the body/paint.

Re: Is it worth the time/hassle? - 67 SWB
I would say with more and more "really clean" SWB '67's gone, it looks like an OK place to start.
If this was something you were building for yourself that's one thing, but I wouldn't take it on for anything resale. You won't get your money back out of it. 2 grand for a '67 SWB? Not shabby but couldn't hurt to try to get him lower. I doubt he will take lower than 15-18. After all it is a SWB '67! Don |
Re: Is it worth the time/hassle? - 67 SWB
It never ceases to amaze me how much junk someone can add to the outside of a truck. Looks like a good starting point for sure.

Re: Is it worth the time/hassle? - 67 SWB
What part of the south is it from?Looks like the stuff from my area!
The only turn-off for me is the rusty roof---hard place to fix.It does appear to be complete though. And you can sell the 57 Chevy 150/210 hubcaps! I see the steps in the bedside---Some poeple like those and you don't see many of them. I think it's a little too much, but I'm cheap! There's one on Craig's List here in Gulfport,Ms. for around $8,000.00.Not sure of the year. But it's finished and ready to go.IT'S NOT MINE! Mike.:chevy::gmc2: |
Re: Is it worth the time/hassle? - 67 SWB
I tend to agree with 100%chevy a little high ,truck has potential but is rough I would offer $1000 for it
|
Re: Is it worth the time/hassle? - 67 SWB

I'd rent a uhaul trailer and drive to CO for the one for sale on the board for $750....
I agree to no more than $1500 since you are going to find a lot more rot on that truck... I do like that it's a fairly original truck... with SS mirrors... but where did that side trim come from? 67/68's had lower trim that went over the tires.... |
Re: Is it worth the time/hassle? - 67 SWB
In my opinion, go somewhere else. That truck has too much rust in areas that are a pain to repair. You can do a lot better for a lot less.

Re: Is it worth the time/hassle? - 67 SWB
you could just move here to phoenix and it wouldnt rust/rot anymore on ya....... i would redo the suspension, pull some add ons off it and clean up the underhood with some flat black and drive it after a good ol tune up...

Re: Is it worth the time/hassle? - 67 SWB
OK here is my two and 1/2 cents. Easy to say what something might be worth. The real number 1 question is how much will I end up spending to get the final result I am expecting. Lets use this truck as an example. Suppose you did get this truck for say $1,000. You intend to remetal all the rough areas. Just from quick observation and a whole lot of rust experience I can see doors, inner rockers, outer rockers, cab corners, under cab supports, floor sections and the list would easily double when you get into it. Now there is a truck from a dry climate area for say $2,500 and all it needs is a little dent pull here and a little dent pull there and some body and paint. The end result will be less expensive to spend a bit more to get a better starting point. So good luck with your hunting and I hope this helps.

i have to disagree a bit, in ohio most of the trucks dont look near that good, and it all comes down to what the person intends to do with the vehicle, my father is spending 20k+ on his truck, he will never get that back out of it, but he wants a nice DD..if the buyer can see the potential and knowing what the other vehicles in the area look like to start with, this may be his best bet..but being the way the economy is i would say that anyone can use the money..just flaunt the green and see how it goes:) |

This truck (the rusty 67) is less than a mile from my house...
He used to have many more for sale - I went and looked at a 72 Cheyenne LWB that he had - it was mostly rust free and in decent shape - it had been repainted at one point from Blue to Black and sold in about 3 days. It was in decent shape - just didn't need another LWB at that time. This one he was going to keep - the longer he hangs on to it - the worse it looks rust-wise...I don't recall how much rust was on it last time - but I don't remember it being this bad. **UPDATE** After reading some of the replies and reviewing my plans for the truck...I bought the 67 SWB GMC from DieselEater [pix below] (it will be paid for and stored in Colorado for a few months)...just need to figure out transport for the spring to get it to Ohio - :) Unless somebody is coming this way - I will work with www.uship.com Good thinking msgross - I read your post after I messaged DieselEater about his truck - great minds think alike. Thanks for the help guys... Another project pending for Summer/Fall 2009...I will keep you posted. |
Re: Is it worth the time/hassle? - 67 SWB
sweet, how much is my finders fee?
I like that GMC and the price is right... Like I said, Uhaul has car trailers for $50 a day so I would make a road trip out of it! Gas is cheap right now... I looked at U-ship but didn't like the idea that I couldn't talk to the haulers. |
Re: Is it worth the time/hassle? - 67 SWB
i think you made a better choice--a lot more truck(literally) for a bunch less money. but the other one had some cool "accessories" added to it,LOL.

Re: Is it worth the time/hassle? - 67 SWB
I agree that you bought a much better truck. Its easier to repair mechanics than hidden rust. :cong: on a great buy!!
|
Re: Is it worth the time/hassle? - 67 SWB
Much better find for sure and it's from a board member to boot!
On that one [if anyone else is looking at it]....I wouldn't pay more than $1500 for it. |
Re: Is it worth the time/hassle? - 67 SWB
is that glove box door standard equipment, or a addon?
|
Re: Is it worth the time/hassle? - 67 SWB
Good deal on the GMC. Hey, "If" you're thinking of ditching the GMC 4 eyes in favor of 67/68 chevy let me know when the time comes. I have equal or better condition Chevy Grille and tailgate for possible trade bait or I can buy outright. Not wanting to turn this into a for sale or WTB just putting a bug in your ear.;)
