Just a few words from Foresthill CA. Happy to find this site, didn't know how many are interested in older GM products! Presently starting down the road of transferring 1968 C20 sheet metal to a 1977 GMC K2500 frame. The 1977 has 4.10 gears. Dana 44 up front and a 14 bolt Gm in the rear. The power will come from a 396 that is now a 408 cu.in. This will be bolted to a SM465 with a NP205. At this point there are still many decisions to be made as to fit and placement of sheet metal. My older brother Craig is the head engineer on this project. He is a good fabricator, welder and did all the engine assembly. We had the good fortune of firing the engine on a start up stand, man that engine just shook his driveway! I plan on pulling off all the junk from the 1977 frame that we won't be using. New springs, shocks, brake, fuel lines and a new 40 gallon tank to rest between the frame rails but, first a good degreasing and a application of POR15; anyone want to lend me $$$$$$$?!! The 1968 just needed some gas, battery and with my starter it fired up after 5 years of sitting in a field. The best part was only $200; and it has a turbo 400 + a small block 327. The engine is for sale as is the tranny. I still have the 1972 4x4 K20 that the 396 came from. This truck will be for sale shortly-it's a good builder. Found out it started life as a C20 that someone bolted 4x4 stuff to. It has a dana 44 front , corporate 10 bolt rear, with a locker, both with 4.10 gears. I guess I have my work cut out! Like most people, I'm building this as time and money allow. This started over 1 year ago, I guess I'm getting a little anxious to finish but, I know many of you folks have been at it longer than this. My intension is not a show truck but, a truck I can use for wheeling, firewood cutting and my gold mining adventures. Hope to talk to some of you gals and guys. Thanks!
