FAQ ideas

With the insane amount of info posted here on a daily basis it is sometimes hard to keep up with it, so if you see a thread that has good info please inform me or any of the staff so we can make sure it ends up in our FAQ page. You could even use the "Report Post" function if you want to, just specify that the thread is FAQ material. BTW if you haven't checked out the FAQ you're missing a lot of good info.:D

hey krue, here's what i'm going to ask.but not sure how to ask it.i get pm's all the time from member's about my wheel/tire combo, drop spec's.which is great,i don't mind helping.but, alot of member's especially new one's are wanting info without maybe not knowing how or where to search for it.there's a current wheel and tire pic thread going.and there has been several similar in the past.but, new guy's don't know that.that when you look at it you see the same stuff reloaded 3 or 4 time's because people quote the reply and soon it becomes sort of a mess.is there away to post a couple pics of your truck.with the tire/wheel combo spec's.lift or drop info.no quoting,no comment's.just reference for people looking to achieve a similar look.it would be a quicker, cleaner reference to browse.if they have question's or comment's they could pm.stockers, dropped and 4x4 maybe in catergories.does anybody follow me? ken, rusty ?

Re: FAQ ideas

If you guys want to do that, just let us know. All we would have to do is lock the post once it is completed and or add it to the truck FAQ area itself, where posting isnt possible, its read only.
If thats not what you mean, let me know and we can all pow wow and come up with something.
We have been wanting to revamp the FAQ area due to this for some time. ideas are more then welcome.

Re: FAQ ideas

yea, that's pretty much what i meant liz.it would be informative without seeing the same picture multiple times in one thread.i don;t know how other's feel though.maybe they'll chime in.

Sounds like an excellent idea to me.
Instead of Right Click Save, now it is
Please add to the FAQ's

I agree too.

Re: FAQ ideas

Yo! Yeah!
Is there a FAQ for this specific '73-'87 forum, or just the general FAQ forum? Perhaps there'd be a demand for forum specific FAQ's if that was possible. That may be what boatpuller is refering to,...FAQ's catagorized by forum. There's alot of great info provided specific to types of trucks and catagorizing it would make it easier to search and access within each forum. Just a thought, might be impossible to implement. Todd.

Re: FAQ ideas

Check out my index thread link in my sig, there's not a subforum for each year, mainly because we have a lot of forums as it is and quite a bit of the info is not specific to a model yr. I split them the way that made sense to me at the time, but if you have any suggestions feel free to make them.

Re: FAQ ideas

I'm a newbie here with an 86 swb and I'd love to see a FAQ just for 73-87's. I have a bunch of questions about drops, wheel tires etc and dont frequent the rest of the forum, just the 73-87 section, so it only makes sense to me thats where I'd find the FAQ's about them.

Re: FAQ ideas

Woah, krue!
Thanks, bookmarked that one! Should it be a "sticky"?
Thanks again, Todd.

ya I would like to see it filed under all the types of trucks and then a general one for generic tips. that would make things easyer in finding a problem with your truck.

krue 01-05-2009 03:52 AM

Re: FAQ ideas

If anyone wants to make a list of links of the FAQ's that only apply to a specific year range I'll sticky it for ya.

boatpuller 01-05-2009 01:34 PM

Re: FAQ ideas

i know.i"ve been around long enough i should no what a sticky is.but,i don't.all i suggested was to have thread with no replying.locked like liz sad.three categories.stock, lowered and lifted.each member is allowed say 2 or 3 pics to post one time. with their tire and wheel info and drop or lift info.then folk's can look thru it as visual reference without seing the same pic loaded up numerous times because guy's hit the quote button and comment.then the same truck is pictured again and again.pics without comments,i guess you'd say.and it very well maybe to much to do,info wise. i don't have any idea how that stuff work's.i'm refering to 73-87 only.it would be like the let's see some shortbed's ongoing thread but without quoting.it would eliminate the "hey what's your backspace? or "cool truck man".which is great but when the quote button get's hit at each comment it get's cluttered.people could pm each other for more detailed spec's.it's like some forum's have a "member's ride's" section.by generation.i know we have a gallery but it's not the same.

How about a wheel/tire specs sticky and a lift/drop sticky?

I started a wheel/tire thread that seems to have some good info info in it. I'd like a drop thread too as I'm needing more info on that and I think I'd benefit alot of noobs are repetitive posts.

Here's the deal, y'all need to be the ones making the threads, once they are made I will make sure they get to the FAQ board.:D

Re: FAQ ideas

Yo! boatpuller!
I understand JUST what you're saying,...really slows things up, and fills the threads with comments posted with repeats of pics! I post, but never "quote" a post (no real need to! Especially not pics), to avoid that problem.
I like the catagories you suggest.
"Sticky" is simply a locked info (or any kind of "read only") thread (us oldsters gotta help each other out with these kinda weird terms!).
krue is right, we need to do the posting, and some organisation of the threads, and then ask for the help in making high quality, informational ones into "stickys". Forum staff are probably too few, and too busy, to do ALL of this for us themselves.
I'm a longstanding member of a couple of other forums, and we, as members, have been fairly successful in creating some good "read only" informational stickys by simply trying to "coax" the newbees and others to curtail this kind of repetative comment/picture posting except in "chat" type threads.
Todd.

Re: FAQ ideas

If y'all get a thread going, once it's done I can go back and weed out the posts that aren't necessary.

Re: FAQ ideas

Ironically I was in the process of cleaning up the 73-87 LWB today. The problem is people are going to make comments with quotes and there isn't anything you can do about that but clean it up later. It is rather time consuming, so I do it when I am bored.

The only other way I know of to remedy that is glean pics from one post and put them in another thread that is locked. Lets see how it goes in the thread that Tony SS put up.

krue 01-12-2009 12:14 AM

Re: FAQ ideas

It's not so bad now that you can use the moderation toolbar, it really sucked before we had that. Making the van tilt thread took me close to 36 hours to clean up.

Re: FAQ ideas

Sounds like a great idea but I think a faq for trucks in general is best many repairs/projects cross years and are best if put together. someone with a 68 may have had the same basic problem you have with a 78 and if they are not together you will miss it or have search each forum.

Re: FAQ ideas

Yo! Thanks to N2TRUX and krue for spending so much time devoted to making these informative "read only" threads (stickys)!!
Guess we can only try to inform our members to avoid the un-necessary comments with quotes. Not even sure how to do that other than to post it too. Todd.

Re: FAQ ideas

Dont know if it has been said or not but I would like to see a sticky for drop kits. I think it would clean up the 73-87 section. this thread is a good start. Drop Thread That way newbs can get an idea of what certain drops look like.

Re: FAQ ideas

bam!
in the 4x4 area we have the "will it fit" srea.. with wheel and itre combos compared to lifts..
we could have at lease a genralized wheel chart here where the common sizes are listed so you dont see som many "can i fit my bling on my bagged truck: etc..
