i bought these valve covers a while ago for my 305 motor with plans on finding an intake with a dickie tube. as the best laid plans go i didn't find a intake within my price range. my fiancee was already not to happy that i bought the valve covers for $125.00 but they are orignal 283 chrome script covers and the were in great shape for how old they are. their are a few dents in the top of them from my 1 year old daughter taking the and playing the drums on them. i can blame her for the dents though i left them out where she could get at them. any hoo i got a holly intake for free but no dickie tube. i still have my orignal covers so i am going to clean the up and use them. so what are these worth. can i at least get $100.00 for them or am i asking too much.

Those kind of covers didnt come in chrome. Someone had em done. If you really want to get 100 bucks for em I would take em out and carefully tap out those dings and clean em up real good. Take some very good pics and post em up for sale. Without the dings and polished up really nice someone might give you what you want for em...good luck...neat ol covers.

these cover did come in chrome from the factory on impalas. afriend of mine is an imp nut and said that the were an option from what he knows. he is pretty dead on when it coms to those cars.

I have seen chrome ones from the factory but those fit a 305 so they aren't original 283 covers. 265 and 283 had off set bolt holes that would not fit a 305. they may have been 327 or 350 covers

Later 283's had aligned bolt holes, at least the ones on my 64 are and the ones on the 58 engine I have.

I stand corrected they changed to straight pattern in 58 for some motors and corvette kept them till 59.

Well honestly Ive never seen a set that was chromed from the factory. And I collect valve covers for fun. Always good to learn new things....

I did a little homework on this style of cover. Here is an answer I got from a person that knows the real scoop....Thanks for bringing this up 54 jimmy. I love learning.

"Chevrolet offered chrome script valve covers in 1967 only. The chrome covers were used in three instances L79(325HP 327) Chevelles, Z28 and SS 350 Camaros. The L79 was rerated to 325HP to diminish the appeal of the small block. The sales emphasis was on the big block SS 396 option in three horsepower ratings 325, 350 and 375.
1967 was the last year for the vented block for a PCV, vented oil fill tube, and the script valve covers. In '68 the vented valve covers were introduced since the engine blocks were no longer vented. The PCV system was routed from both valve covers. One valve cover hose had a PC valve which ran to the base of the carburetor and the other valve cover had just a hose that went to an outlet in the base of the air cleaner.
Just a little history as to when and why the script valve covers were discontinued."
