disc brake conversion
 

I have a 68 shortbed that I am doing a complete frame off resto on I am to the point of buying new brake lines and was wondering if I would need 72 brake lines since I converted to disc up front. Also I noticed that the 68 and 72 front lines are ran differently. I have already blasted and powder coated the front cross member and dont want to have to mess that up by moving any mounting locations for the lines. Is there any way I can use the 68 lines routed in there original location and make my disc brakes work correctly? HELP PLEASE

I swapped on my disc brakes with Belltech spindles and brakes from an 84 Silverado. I did not have to change the locations of the lines.

I will be following this as I am doing the same swap to my 67 from a 72

I used the original setup on my 68 3/4 ton. The drum rubber hoses screwed right into the calipers.

The 68' lines will not work, especially in the front. Since you have to change Master Cylinders and go with a proportional valve (68' has a distribution block), the front lines are a different size. The line size of the disk setup is 3/16" inch line. Drums front are 1/4". The rear lines are the same size - 1/4". But the bends are totally different.

I just did mine last month. To get mine running, I bent my own lines BUT since it's still not a driver and has lots of work to be done - I am going to replace the fronts and rears with new lines. About $200. Lots of guys recommend inlinetube

I also went with Steel Braided Hoses to my calipers and Drums.

On my 70 I had to change out the rubber lines from the a-arm to the caliper when I instaled my 72 front end.

I just tried using a purchased line kit for a '67 disc swap; kit's for a '72. I'm now returning the kit and bending/flaring lines from scratch, can't justify the money on the kit for the mods required.
