69 Chevy 1 Ton Dually Cummins

I was fixing to buy a new Dodge but after a few thoughts I have come to the conclusion I have lost my mind! I have seen a few pics of the 4 door Chevy gold I think is the color,I am color blind so I ain't sure.I am looking for some advise to copy its cab,or some ideas on a extended cab I have seen a few but I didnt like them much" the back window never looked right" If anyone has any pics of a good looking extended cab please forward them to me,I am going to build truck just like my 02 Dodge 1 tom 4x4 but with Chevy outters! My only problem is I can not do body work! I can fab just about anything but not body work!

Boy, for someone from Texas...you gotta lotta ambition! (My wife is from Texas).

You can't do body work, huh? It's gonna be an interesting build. You should set out to find someones' extended-cab project that has a complete body and adapt your Cummins drivetrain to the chassis. There have been several who have posted their Cummins projects, so you gotta know they're gonna be posting, soon.

Hey man...Im already in progress (very slow might I add) in doing what you want. For me, I think the best option is using the Dodge frame and running gear and throwing the cab on the truck... It is what Im doing.

Im picking up a 99 3/4 ton frame (which is the same as the 1 ton minus the leaf springs) and setting the cab on it. I thought long and hard about this... The motor and trans will bolt right in, the frame is MUCH stronger, better steering and less custom fab work. You can use all the suspension and hoses. It solves the fuel tank problem (needs a diesel tank...gas tank will froth up on you). I will be building a flat bed for my truck (or buying an existing and modifying it. The rear ends are very strong (Dana 80) and it is just flat out designed to pull heavy.

Im figuring it should be simple as building 4 cab mounts, 2 radiator support mounts. The flat bed would be a bolt on type deal just like on a new truck. All the brake and fuel lines are already there.

Picking up my frame this weekend or beginning of next week. I will take plenty of pics when I get the motor/trans in and the body on

LOL,its me Tiger I bought the 396 from you for my old 69,when you told me about your truck and I need a new truck it go tme to thinking ,why build a 69 shorty when I can build a 69 1 ton and not buy a new Dodge! So I will not be building my 69 Short box,I will be selling it back to Chad the guy I sold it to about 20 years ago,he was 15 when he bought it from me.It has more value to him than it does for me.So I will be doing just like you, finding a 1 ton and putting a cab on it but I want a 4 door or a extended cab!

Right on man, I noticed it was you...Im glad you had your buddy to sell it to. It had some sentimental value to both of you. I'll keep you updated with my build. Hoping to get the frame ASAP so I can start mocking it up.

Sorry for the bad ideas...it's gonna get costly. Well, honestly, it wont be too bad. So far I have about $1500 into the motor and $1200 into the transmission. Picking up the frame/rolling chassis for $300 minus the rear end. Found a couple rears for $300-500. Picked up some 3rd gen wheels/tires for $200. My build will be on a budget...Im poor :)

Do you want to do a 12v or a 24v?

Same price...still have it. I have had 3 people back out on buying it with the same old excuse "man, thats a nice frame...let me see if I can get the rest of the money on payday"...and they never show back up or call...

Wrecked truck as long as the frame isnt bent is best way to go.. Finding the right one is another story. Never can find one that is getting parted out near me for a decent price. People still think that a wrecked 12v truck is worth $5000+. Need a single cab frame, but short or long...that depends on what you plan on doing for a bed. Wheel base is the key... From my measurements, width is good...length with a fleet side bed is the problem. I believe you might have to shorten the frame a bit. Single cab to single cab might be ok, but if you have a club cab dodge, you will have to shorten the frame and all the brake and fuel lines along with the driveshaft. Doing a flat bed makes my life simple.
