Rear Disc conversion
 

I'm just looking at the performance online kit for doing a rear disc conversion.Has anyone bought one? I looked at doing a caddy swap , but can't find any core calipers , and backing plates in the area ,and every where i look right now , by the time i buy them and turn them in as cores and pay for shipping i'm at around the same price.

I found this a couple of weeks ago. I do not know anything about the company, but the pricing looks better than CPP or POL. Of course sometimes you get what you pay for......let us know how it works out. Thanks.

Yes it seems expensive, 250 for two steel plates and two rotors
or
599 from (insert company name here) for two rotors, two steel plates, two calipers and two E brake cables. My math makes the e cables and calipers 300 dollars.


I'm going to order my TSM kit next month and run to the junk yard and find rear Cadillac calipers next week end.

Unless some one knows of a source for rear 6 lug rotors.

Has anybody looked at the rear of a 1999 or 2000 gmc and would those fit on a 12 bolt rear?They are 6 lug rotors and maybe the brackets and everything would fit?

i haven't looked at the link that was put up yet but, i figured 500ish for rotors,calipers,lines , hoses , hardware and brackets was pretty good through POL. I was use to the rear drums, just wondering if it's really that good of an upgrade

you mentioned cadillac calipers what years will fit and work? what all parts are neccesary. this is the first ive heard of this swap. thanks.

5150 and TVBlazer78 have both bought and installed this kit from Blackbird Customs. It's available in 5 or 6 lug. I believe they were running a special for like $450 shipped.

Edit: TVBlazer78 bought his for $400. Not sure if that is with shipping or not.

Good luck on finding those Caddy rear calipers at the junk yards. They sell 'em like they are gold. Took me 3 months to find a usable set for cores.

Every vendor needs to make a profit and sometimes the convience of a pre-packaged deal is much simpler in the build cycle, but for the hot rodder in you who wants to find the parts and make it work....


I just saw this...
CPP's kit has rear hadlines, rubber brake hoses (I would never add rubber brake hoses after all of the work to add rear discs) and emeregency brake cables, loaded calipers, clips to mount the rubber brake lines and all of the hardware for $599



Everyone gets a package to fit their level of comfort.

i just looked at the blackbird set up , but i have to have e- brakes (truck has to be inspected when she rolls again) so they are still 540 , then you have brake lines and e-brake cables. Nobody seems to have hung onto the old caddys up here in the great white north, and any bone yard that has any thing still wants a arm ,leg and my left foot for them. Maybe i'm thinking of the wrong calipers , but when i checked up here, my core charges were like 120, and the the caliper outright price was something like 150 or 160

Check TSM, they have a complete kit outright.

Check RockAuto.com for the calipers if you are going to piece together a system.
