Power steering question
It looks like the power steering box (not the pump) has a leak in it in my 72. Is there a way to fix it, or do I have to buy a new (or rebuilt) box? Thanks for your help.

Re: Power steering question
My box was leaking from where the steering shaft goes in on the top. I pulled the linkage off screwed a screw into the seal and pulled her out. Put the new seal on, and the leak is gone for 5 plus years now. I didn't even have to pull the box off of the frame. Just had to take my tire off. Where is it leaking from? Also lucus and royal purple have additives for power steering leaks that swell the seals to stop the leak. good luck

Re: Power steering question
lts70- That is exactly where my leak is coming from. Where did you get the new seal? Is it a common part available at chain parts stores? I have never dealt with this issue before. Thank you!

Re: Power steering question
NAPA had it in stock when I needed it. If you are going to do it the way I did do not use a self tapping screw. Use a screw with a sharp point so that your screw doesn't just pull out with out the seal and they won't leave metal shavings like the self tappers. Also make sure the area is cleaned off with brake clean and a wire brush before starting. And of coures your steering linkage and coupler are off so you can get the old seal off and new one on.
