Cummins. And a nice storey
Well, the last few weeks have been pretty trying, I got laid off, Had a fire out at my place, haven't been able to find any steady work, and haven't even had a running vehicle. The frame on my 72 Dually got tweaked, and I was going to fix it, got all the material for a new frame, and wound up deciding to throw a motor in my 89 blazer, but wound up way deeper in it than I wanted to be and was still a long ways from having it running, which is a bad place to be when you aren't working.
I have been doing random welding jobs for people to bring in some money, and I have been borrowing a friends truck to get around. Well last night the other shoe dropped and my band saw gave up the ghost effectively putting me out of the welding business. As many of you know I have been trying to sell my blazer so I can get my dually back on the road, and at the same time I had been trying to get enough cash together for a Dodge that I had been eyeballing. I am not a dodge guy, but I love the Cummins Engine, And this truck has one. Well as it worked out this morning I sold the blazer, and was pondering what to do, when my friend Kirk had his wife drop off the money required to get the dodge. I was totally floored, and it was totally unexpected. He had already helped me out by huge leaps and bounds letting me borrow his truck, but this was above and beyond. Not only has it helped me get out of a huge bind that I was in for a vehicle, but it has taken me one giant leap towards a big dream of mine, that dream is putting a Cummins 12 valve in my 72 Dually. So this afternoon I went and got the truck... http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2.../exterior1.jpg And it has a Cummins! http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...alTA/motor.jpg And it runs like a Sewing machine, Well that is if Sewing machines could lay out big beautiful clouds of black smoke... So the plan is, 1. Take the old welding body and install it on the Dodge, and get back to work ASAP http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...newtrailer.jpg 2. Obviously pay Kirk back, Cause he is a hell of a guy. 3. Build the frame for the 72 C/30 out of 3x6x.25" box tube that will actually turn it into a K30 with a Dana 60 DRW front, and Air Ride! http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...A/concept1.jpg 4. Install the Cummins in the 72 in front of the NV4500, and the NP203/205 Doubler I have. 5. Add a home grown flat bed with a Hydraulic pump driven off of the PTO 6. Go trucki'n and be happy! Maybe even get the girl... :metal: |
Re: Cummins.
Sometimes the kindness of a buddy can make a huge difference in a guy's life, when all the chips are down is when you find out who your real friends are.
Good luck man, I hope it works out for ya! Dan :gmc2: |
Re: Cummins.
Buddy's like that are few and far between.
You must be a great friend as well. OR he wouldn't be. |
Re: Cummins.
When I saw the title and author I smiled. Lucky man! Got a Cummins and a great friend!

http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...A/testfit1.jpg And I am working on Designing this, going to surprise him when I build it for him. http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...TA/kirkbed.jpg It is a custom flat bed, with huge boxes on it for his gear. His truck sits higher than most, and when he turned a corner pulling his camper, he got the hitch down into the bed rail and jacked it up good, this will fix any problems like that. And I think it will make it much more workable instead of rummaging around in the back for what he needs. |

Actually on the way home the radio station played Thunderstruck by AC/DC, I will admit, I teared up a little bit I was smiling so hard. |

That never gets old! My dad is a big guy, he slept in a tiny bed. We sang "Fat guy in a little bed" for days!

Re: Cummins.
Hey Beast sorry to hear about your troubles. They say what doesn't kill you will only make you stronger. Have you heard about the Post 911 GI Bill? It's much, much better than the old one. It pays all your tuition, gived you BAH for an E5 with dependents AND a $1000 a year for books. Go to www.VA.gov for more information. I deal with GI benefits all day, so if you have any specific questions or you think someone is blowing you off, please let me know. Keep the faith.

Re: Cummins.
Cool deal on the cummins. That would be a sweet motor to have in a C10. Especially if it was all hopped up with a front mount and bigger turbo. ARP head bolts here we go!

Re: Cummins.
