Lifting a Blazer Questions
 

My world of 4x4 ing is new so im not real sure on all the lifting methods.Im sure blocks and body mounts,owner told me it had a 2" already want to go more for rock climbing etc i was thinking maybe 6" any major mody steering linkage,tranny linkage,springs,shocks,driveshaft what do i have to look foward would like as much lift thats legal without major problems this will be my Desert hunter machine crawling up rock trails,through washes,sand,dirt hills etc.this is for a 1980 Blazer.

are you wanting a 6" suspension lift? how big are the blocks? hope the PO didnt put them on the front....

6 inch don't need much, I'd go with springs up front and reverse shackle in rear. You'll need a drop down pitman arm and might have to do some minor auto shift linkage mods. If I recall driveshafts are still ok. There are two spacers above the frame on the xfer case crossmember mount, place these spacers below the frame, between the frame and crossmember to lower the xfer case and slightly correct rear drive line angle. 33" tires are ok with 6 inches any bigger you will need a sawzall to trim the fenders- can be done to look pretty good.

It is recommended, however that not even 12 bolts are strong enough for rock crawling. If going over 35" tire size it is claimed differentials won't hold. If it were me (is me with 10 bolts) I would run til the "pumpkins explode" and have money saved for 1 ton suspension and gears. Check em out there are lots of people there have done that - 1 ton axles under a Blazer look pretty cool!
