question on choking, sans heimlich
 

I'm looking at priming my carb with a command from my remote starter and a small fuel inline electric fuel pump, but I wonder if the choke will be set.

My starter will turn until the computer gets a tach signal, or for a set amount of time (15 seconds).

Can I set the choke when I leave the truck at night? (with a normal pump to the pedal) OR will the electric choke on my 1406 automatically set?

I think you have to set the choke by pumping the pedal the night before. While the electric choke will put pressure on the spring, the throttle won't be up on the fast idle cam so the truck will probably stall out right away.

Pumping the pedal always gives the engine a shot of fuel via the accelerator pump, so you'll be without that as well if you pump it the night before and have that fuel disappear overnight. I say try it, I'm curious to know how it works.

PS. remember those AC solenoids that would be electronically activated to bump the idle up when the AC is turned on preventing the engine from bogging down? I think some carbs have them. Maybe you could wire one up (or something like it) so that the computer will send a momentary signal to it that would "pump" the throttle just before attempting to start the engine, thus setting the fast idle cam and giving the engine a squirt of fuel.

That solenoid idea might be the solution for you. Gotta set that choke somehow.

there will be gas in the carb, because the remote starter will run a little electric pump for a squirt.

I'll have to bug the tech guys to see if I can get another signal to operate a solenoid. Good Idea!!!

Pumping it the night before will not work.The bi-metal spring will keep the choke from closing when the engine is warm.If you wait until it cools it might work.

Panel has a point. I think it comes down to having to pump the throttle just before starting.
