Blazer '87 value?

Hey Guys, just found out about this board, and looks like there is a ton of information about my favorite truck!

Im currently the proud owner of a 1981 K10 that has been passed over by my dad who bought it brand new.

However, I have always loved the smaller Blazer style but they only one I found where pure rust-bucket that where used to plow snow until theyre not reliable enough to do so.

And now, I just happen to stumble upon a local add about a 1987 Blazer for 3000$ neg. From what I can see the trucks seems to be in real good shape and very straight.

So, called the guy up. Truck has had the floor repaired, repainted black 2 years ago (orig red/orange) minor rust spots he says...). Looks like basic equipment, no A/C, probably no elec window or door.. It has 93k miles on it.

I havent seen the truck yet as its about 2 hours drive from my place, and im trying to figure out if its a good deal, and I could sell the truck back for similar amount in a few years, or Im just going to loose my $$$ on this.

Mechanical: 5L Injection (TBI I believe?) and manual tranny, manual hubs. The owner belive it has a stock limited slip in the rear and stock gears (possibly 3.08)
Goodies: Apparently all this has been done in the the last year or so: 4" Skyjacker, Bushwacker cutout and five recent Goodyear 37x12.5x17 on 17" Aluminium wheels.

The truck has been for sale since at least September (has per the website) and the guy said 3K negociable. Is this a smoking deal? Too good to be true? He says all the upgrades amount to over 3000$ but now he wants to sell the truck... that looks a bit weird. And Im wondering why its been for sale for so long. I want to offer him 2000 or 2200$ for it. Max would be 2400$.

Also im wondering if running 37" tires isnt a bit much on stock axles? I read somewhere that its hard on the T-case. Is the stock 5L able to decently move the truck? I know the performance of my K10 with a stock 350 on 31", 37" is quite a lot bigger.

Thanks guys, now the hard part... justifying having another vehicule with the gf...

I was told not to run anything bigger then 33's on stock 10 bolt axles if your going to wheel it at all. If that thing really does have 3.08 gears it's going to be a real pig on 37" tires and you will need to change the gears to some thing lower. Other then that it sounds ok to me but i would not pay no $3k for a blazer unless it was really nice.

yeah it would have to be no rust and with lots of mods to pay $3000 or more for one... I would say you have the right idea of $2000 to 2400, depending on what he will take...

but also think of this... if it has been up for sale since Sept, how many truck guys have looked at it and passed it by so far? maybe because they saw some problems? That is worth keeping in mind.

It does look like a quickie paintjob --- use a magnet to look for rust in the fenders, rear quarters and rocker areas, plus the area just behind the rockers

37's are a bit big for stock axles and gearing,

If it passes the magnet test, you would do okay offering 2k - 2500 i think.

Drive it a while and whats the worst that could happen? you sell it for 1800 and lose a few bucks? no big deal if its good transpo.
