Should I do it?
This guy said he would trade me his truck for my truck and dirtbike and im not sure if i should do it.
What do you think? i really like this truck I am in highschool and there is the whole thing about driving the nicest car in school and i really like this one and my truck is getting uglier by the day i think and im tired of it always breaking down on me but anyways what do you think? http://oklahomacity.craigslist.org/cto/976384589.html |
Re: Should I do it?
NO....keep your truck! That new one will depriciate and go out of style. Who cares what people in high school think? Let's see what they are driving after they get out of high school, and mommy and daddy ain't givin them no mo money.

Re: Should I do it?
I say no because it is a v6, has a different front end (which probly means its been wrecked), and that truck will go down in value while yours will go up even though right now it seems like a good deal you might regret it later, and 160,000 is a lot of miles for that year i think. Thats just my opion though. I drive a 95 now and a lot of times wish I was still driving the 83.

Re: Should I do it?
Years ago I was faced with a similar dilemma and decided to go with the newer model. I have regretted the decision ever since. Keep your truck.

Re: Should I do it?
I would say no, but I don't know what your motorcycle is. I have the same issues as thebrown83 brings up. All those things put together should be a big warning sign that that truck has had a hard life. Your truck is a classic, that truck never will be.

Re: Should I do it?
160K is a lot of miles!!!
That's for you to decide if it's worth possible future engine work/replacement or transmission replacement. With the miles I drive, it would hit 200K in about 2 years. That model chevy is a very reliable truck, but once you start getting that high, expensive repairs become more likely. I would check to see if it's been in a wreck. This board member is offering free carfax reports, you just need to ask the owner for the VIN. It is still possible it was in one, as carfax can only report back with accidents that were reported... lots of people get in fender benders and fix them themselves. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...ghlight=carfax It's not common at all for people to put an 03-05 clip on a 99-02. It's more common to swap them the other way around. That really is a tough choice. When I was in college I couldn't afford to drive the 67, so I bought and fixed up a cheap 86 Toyota truck that got me through college. I did wind up swapping the motor twice with junkyard units. I was kinda hard on it  Also, to hell with what other people think about what you drive. Because I decided to not get the newest and coolest vehicle like everyone else does, I have 3 for the price of one :D |
Re: Should I do it?
Keep your truck,,,,,his will depreciate really quick. As others have said yours will appreciate or at the very least stay the same.

Re: Should I do it?
That truck must have clobbered something in its life time. The front end he is talking about is $6500 if all GM parts. Insurance must have paid for it.
I used to have a 2004 Reg cab short bed and was going to put the Silverado SS front on it. I remember the prices very well. Then the bank took it cause I got behind on payments for $7.00. Yup you heard right. $7.00, I decided not to include the 0.48cents when I would write them a check. |
Re: Should I do it?
i know what you guys mean i want to keep my truck but i want a more reliable and nicer truck for highschool i know i shouldnt worry about what other people think but yeah i cant help it

Never ever do something because of what other people think, especially when you're in high school. High school is basically one big popularity contest that no one wins. Like everyone else has said, your truck will go up in value where as his will just go down, not to mention that his only has a V6. I noticed in your build thread that you stated that your truck was a father/son build and those are some great memories that you won't get with that other truck. Besides all that, here is what your truck could look like one day which is much better than what his will ever look like.

I wouldnt do it if I were you. First check the blue book value, it's not $6,500. Second call your local dealer and ask them how much to replace the catalytic converters. When they tell you around $1,300, you will understand why I sold mine and bought a truck with an engine and nothing else. |
Re: Should I do it?
I would totally agree with everyone here so far. Keep your truck and get with some REAL friends that appreciate these classics!

Re: Should I do it?
I wouldn't but I would say it's your truck and no matter what any of us say you have to do what you want to do . Your the one who has to live with the decision you make . If your wish is to own the newer truck then I say go for it ! My 2 cents

Re: Should I do it?
not advocating getting rid of your truck, but I guess if you did, you could trade this newer truck for a 67-72 in better shape than the one you currently have...
nah, just keep the one ya got... |
Re: Should I do it?
i think i might just sell my dirtbike and buy a streetbike then and just drive that on the days my truck decides it doesnt want to work
maybe a r6 or cbr600 |

But since you like to tinker with things, I recommend a yamaha vstar 650 or honda shadow spirit 750 (pre-07). You can make both of those look sweet. http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n...Picture059.jpg |

Re: Should I do it?
Having made the mistake of selling 2 different classics ('71 & '67) for newer vehicles......I'm now on my third classic ('72 Cheyenne) and it will not ever leave my possession.
The first time I sold, I was mad becauase the transimission broke down after many other fixes.....youthful mistake. The second time.....it was a decision of a need for safer transportation of my babies......fatherly decision. I've regretted both sales.....but it won't happen again. Do what you gotta do, but don't sell your classic just to keep up with what everybody else is driving. You be the one that makes the "classic" statement! :metal: JMO... Greg |
Re: Should I do it?
Think of it this way. There is a reason the guy wants your truck...Think about it.

Re: Should I do it?
