air filter

i have a 10 inch edelbrock air filter that is 2 inches tall. Does any one know where i could find a 10 inch air filter element that is taller then 2 inches? also i am running a sbc 400 and do i even need a bigger air filter element?

Re: air filter

Ditch it for a 14 inch diameter filter, 4 inches tall if you can fit it.

Infact, the stock air filter element for these trucks is 12x3.5. You would honestly do better than the 10x3 by using the stock setup with the lid flipped.

Just go down to any autoparts store with your old filter and pick the size you want.

I ran a 14X4.5 on an old 305. It would scream all way through the RPM range. It ran cooler too.

pepboys and autozone both sell nice conversion kits to run cone style filters on any carbed motor... they look great and perform well... kinda like a do it yourself cold air intake

What they said above.. go to AZ or Advance and look through the boxes of filters till you find the one you want. The bigger, the better though. I ran a 14x4.5 on mine. Taller is better as long as it doesn't hit the hood.

Here's my 10 inch, I took the base up to advance auto parts and dug through their stock and found this one. I have purolator #PA30067 it's 4 inches tall IIRC. It'll be plenty big.

I went to the auto parts place and looked threw the larger boxes as well until I found the tallest One I could find. I think mine was for a diesel maybe?? Not sure but it works a lot better and looks good too

another cheap mod I have heard works great is ditching the factory mechanical fan infavor of an electric one. windstar fans are popular for this and can be had at junkyards for very cheap

I've stacked filters before and that works good, but I've never had any
trouble finding a big 12" or 14" filter.
