Wacky Gauges
 

My 03 Silverado is having some gauge problems. The RPM and volts indicator are doing some wacky crap. The volts go from 18 to pegged when the actual volts are a normal 14V. The RPM gauge is doing the same. Has anyone had any similar problems? What do you think? Gauge? Faults in the computer?

There's been a "Special Policy" bulletin released for 03-04 GM trucks and SUV's. It looks like your truck is on the list. Check out post #2:

I'd print it out and bring it to your local dealer and see what y'all can work out.

I have had around 8-10 of those models. It is rare to find one that does not need a cluster. Out of those 8-10 trucks maybe 3 didn't need one. It is simple to change and not very expensive if you shop around. Jim

I had the exact same problem with my '03 Silverado. I got on eBay and bought seven new stepper gauges and replaced them all myself. If I can do it anyone can. You will need a good solder gun and a resin sucker. Heat the old resin and suck it off the back of the board and reattach the new stepper motors. From start to finish shouldn't take more than an hour or so. Just follow the easy instructions that will come with your stepper motors. And for what it's worth, I'd go ahead and replace the light bulbs in the cluster too. Shortly after fixing mine I had one go out. Just something to think about and a cheap fix while you have the cluster out.

**Correction** Stepper motors, not stepper gauges. And for a link to the guy I bought mine from go to eBay.com and look up item number 280308058623. This is who I got mine from.
