Dashpad and upper dash colors

4 Attachment(s)
I have a question? The dash pad, top of the dash, steering column and glove box door is a darker color than the rest of the truck. This the first time I have seen this on a 67-72 pickup. The truck is medium blue/white on the SPID but the dash pad, top of dash, steering column and glove box door are a darker blue. I have attached pictures hopefully you can see the color differance. Is this due to it having the Serria Grande option? Has any one else see this on their trucks?

I'm just guessing but I would say it's faded fro the sun. The sun doesn't hit the glove box much and it's not out in the weather all the time.
For the dash pad it's a close as you can get when buying it 30 years later. Just guessing though!

Yeah, single stage paint will fade being exposed to UV an such. Also any cleaning agents, if any, over time can fade paint as well.

GMC did things like this.
Is your inst panel blue too? If not, it's a replacement.
The dash top is supposed to be a flat paint, it never matched the body paint perfectly, this is done to help prevent glare on the windshield.
GMC color keyed there glove box door and there insterment panels together, and they were frequently either off from body color, or a contrasting color from the body.
Black, tan, red, green blue were offered... I think maybe another color or two

The dash, dash pad, steering column and gove box door is darker, then the rest of the truck, not lighter. Sun usually doesn't fad darker it fades lighter. This is the factory paint on this truck along with the factory dash pad, steering column etc. The best I can teel the truck has never been repainted nor in an accident.

The inst. panel is wood grain along with the glove box door cover. Serria Grande model.

With the Grande, they just slapped the sticker over the pre-painted parts. It's still a GMC, and that's still how they did things.

On GMCs those parts are the interior color, not the exterior color,in all the interior colors offered. If a truck was same color inside and out those parts still do not match the exterior. It is the dark blue color. The paint doesn`t match the bright blue vinyl either. Then again, the seat and visors are bright blue and the dash pad and door panels are another blue.

Re: Dashpad and upper dash colors

I was refering to the 3 rd and 4th picture that the outside cowl area would be faded not the glove box inside. As Longhorn man said though GMC did this on their trucks. The dash is a flat paint.
